Why would a ducks back be waterproof? That always confused me.

Why would a ducks back be waterproof? That always confused me.

a duck's back pretty much is.  have you never seen a duck get wet on it's back?  the water rolls off of it better than a freshly waxed 1967 Camero!
 
basically there are a lot of oils in the ducks feathers which keep its body dry even when swimming.

We had some variety of duck around a lake in So. Cal. that always cracked me up.  Instead of a quack they sounded like little woopie cusions - hilarious!
