Sanctuary. One of my first songs with Sonar X1,
and my first upload to soundcloud. I would really like your opinions on the mix please. Be honest, but nice. I used the Eq on the prochannel, The Molot compressor and Limiter No.6 from Vladg sound. Thanks! http://soundcloud.com/clintmartin/sanctuary-wav

I think the distorted guitar(s) could be HPF @ 200Hz or so. Other than that, no major crits.

This is a really nice, light, jazzy rocker. Absoflippinlutely excellent and creative playing. I love the little riff/hook that you return to after generating some heat with your lead work. The mix sounds good to me. Terrific stuff!!! Freddy J

impressive guitar work. santana meets satriani with a little pat metheny. nice job on the sonar mix it actually sounds like you've been working with x1 for a while. maybe the bass could come up a tad but then again i'm listening on dt 770s phones. very cool.

Thanks! I'll try the hpf @200hz and see what I think. I believe I have the guitars hpf @ 40 hz now. This song was started on Music creator 6 untill I finally got SonarX1. I used it (and 5 others) to try and learn Sonar. Thanks for your input and thoughts, they are most appreciated. Hahaha I've heard the Santana thing before...I don't mind that at all!

Terrific jam. The guitar tone is fabulous, and the overall mix is very tight and well defined. You seem to have good ears which really helps with creating the illusion that the band is in the same room with me. Bravo.

Thanks Lynn! I'm always concerned with my mix since my listening room isn't treated. It takes a lot of cdr's for me to get happy hahaha. I'm having a blast listening to everyone's songs on here (yours are great), there are a lot of talented people on this site.

Very interesting journey through your talents. Minor crit both my ears and my meters tell me it is sightly right heavy. Generally the mix sound good here with the bass sounding fine. Thanks for sharing

I'm not known for my mixing skills for sure, but I can say I'm impressed with your playing and the cool tune. And with the little I know, the mix doesn't sound bad at all. :)

nice work there clint! agree with most of the comments already above..... the solo guitar seems to favor the right side.....when it's playing.... don't know how you've got that mixed (stereo, mono, doubled, etc), but just lean it a bit left. it'd be nice to hear a key change during all the extended jams, that'd break it all up very nicely. it just stays in the same key throughout..... there are a lot of good ideas throughout, with the solo stuff, just make the rhythm arrangement meet the same level as the solo effort. for a first song with x1, sounds great!

yeah I'm going to look at that guitar a bit closer. I'm not sure if I used the channel tools or copied the track and nudged one 10ms or so. I've noticed when you do this it does make one or the other louder....I'll look into it. Thanks.

I like this a lot. Great solos and playing! I think the guitar on the left channel is ok for a while as long as you bring something on the right latter. Think as borrowing from the left and then pay it back on the right channel.

Nice tones. Any mix observations/crits are minor and have been pretty well covered so I won't add to that. Maybe you should use CDRW's instead then you wouldn't get through so many !

Yep the lead guitar is not in the center. I just missed it. Thanks to the good people here it has now been fixed. I was using channel tools on that track...so it was an easy fix. +1 on the cdrw!

I like it quite a bit....all around good stuff Clint. I do agree with a few comments above but does not detract from the obvious quality of your recording and musicianship. Carry on....

Great guitar playing...groovy bass line and bottom end mix. Nice, tight, in the pocket feel.

Great song! Great playing. Personally, I think the drums are too present and the lead playing too distant for this type of song. I'd like to hear the melody stand out a bit more from the rest of the song. The song is one of the better ones I've heard on here!

Thanks! That's a great compliment. I've been messing with the mix a bit. The lead guitar is heavy on the right side, but it may stay there. The Hi-hat leans a bit to far left. I've been playing with R-mix some too. I'll probably wait untill I have some more songs recorded before I do a final mix and master. I'm still learning.

All I can say is that this sounds really good to me. Instruments, mix, song , all very nice to listen to. I'm not a big instrumental freak but there's a few guys up here whose instrumentsls I listen to and listen again, and again. This one of them. Is this downloadable?

Thanks! I really don't know if it's downloadable or not Hahaha! I was trying to figure out how to export to soundcloud from sonar and can't remember how it's setup. It will be though once it's considered finished. Let me know if you can't download it and I'll see what I can do. I haven't started a soundclick account...like I said I'm still learning all of this stuff.
