A-300 Pro with USB extension

Hi,

we need to connect out A-300 Pro with an USB extension cable of 10 m,
otherwise we do not reach the place where the controller is needed.

data dump works fine,

but the didplay constantly flips between the normal midi channel = 1
and as sending out controller 7 / 126/127.

so there are constantly controller messages going out with value 126 or 127.

this sure comes from the active usb repeater by delock.

we have another A-300 pro without active usb repeater not showing this error.

on the other hand we need cable over 10 m.

so what shall we do?

this is really urgent, we need another solution,
or repeater cable, which is compatible.

could it be, just the generic driver installed from windows for this usb repeater?

or is it a power issue?

would it help to power the A-300 Pro with an external power supply and not thru the act repater usb?

thanks for any help, please.

cheers

mike

An external power supply would certainly be a plus.
Did the A-300 come with one? I always power my PCR-M50 (an earlier generation of the A series) externally , even when using a USB connection.
The manual warns of possible erratic behavior if USB power is inadequate.
I have a 16'( 5 m) USB cable, and I am pushing the envelope at that length.
10 m is dangerously long for USB, and an invitation for problems.
I would use the standard MIDI output of the A-300, with a long MIDI cable, and a MIDI/USB interface with a very short USB cable.
In the long run, this will probably be less expensive than a very long USB cable(if you can even find one) and it will actually work.
    Hope that helps.

    thanx Robert,

the a-300 did not come with an ext power supply.
but i can buy me one, no problem.

problem is the cable length we need in the studio.

it is totally about 15 m, even too long for midi cables.
    we tried this before.

so we came to usb cabling as active repeaters.

i will try with the power supply.

it makes a strange error only for faders going over 124, 125, 126, 127.
then the display flickers between displaying always the fader value and switching back to the midi channel displayed.

the rest is absolutely stable incl. data dump.

i could imagine that the usb voltage is just a little bit too low.

    thanks again.

    cheers
