My peril seems in tact. Er not your usual thing. For me, not forgetting the furriness of me hearing devices, it sounds a little harsh. Could just be me of course. Thanks for sharing.

I wasn't expecting this from you, but I enjoyed this very much. You broke the mold with this. I like the way the melody went off the beaten path by the occasional notes that were outside the expected scale. Yet, they were perfect and fit the piece so well. Your vision is deeper than most, and you displayed it well with this work. Will this be all, or will there be more to this piece? This could be the start of something big or stand on its own.

Rik, This would be good music for a Thriller movie, it sounds harmless on the surface but you know there is something lurking just under the surface....Like Jerry Goldsmith's Basic Instinct soundtrack. Interesting stuff. Regards

Hi John, glad your peril is intact. I was aiming for clarity but probably overdid it. Can't really judge that since I don't have decent speakers. Mp3 doesn't sound as nice as the wav file. Hi Lynn, thanks, at the moment I don't have the time to follow this up, maybe some day. Hi Mark, thanks, well I was going for a certain anticipation , not knowing what the day will bring, was hoping for something positive to happen but you never know. Rik

wow this was a bit of a digression from your usual stuff. me likeee a lot. i'm listening on a Mac w/ earbuds so I'm not really noticing the harshness. you should send this to Pixar Movies. would be perfect for such a soundtrack application. nice work!

Beautiful melody lines and sounds, a bit of the melancholic mood. I too think that would be suitable for the movie soundtrack

Nice job Rikk. Texturally brilliant. I had just had a cup of coffee after the other two I drank and so my inner tempo was at like 200 while I listened to this and I had to keep slowing myself down mentally to really listen to it. A gem of a song for a movie of a background theme.Or for a person in the mood to relax. Thumbs up.

Commented on SC... overall I think it's brilliant. The reverb sits just right and the departure from your usual style made me sit up and take notice. Cheers, Terry.

I think that you could improve this quite a bit by varying the orchestration, especially using woodwinds for color changes. The flute over high string cluster gets tiring after a while. Try one some of these for size: Oboe or clarinet on the melody. Double the flute melody with a celeste. Strings playing the melody in octaves over woodwinds in harmony (bass clarinet, 2 clarinets, 2 oboes). Same as above but double string melody with flute. Same as above but add mid-range french horn harmony for thick "glue". Flute and oboe playing melody in octaves over french horn chords, use whatever you want for bass note. Substitute celeste, glockenspiel or piano for the harp. Have more fun with it!

So, amongst your many other talents, you have now taken up writing music for Natural History films and TV programmes. And perfect it is too! I love music that tells a story and that is exactly what this does. Off to the green woods and the misty dells; see the dew on the spider's web; watch the tumbling cascade of the brook - exactly what we all do on a Sunday! I don't need pictures to show what you are writing about, you fire the imagination - and that is the epitome of perfection! But of course I would expect nothing else from you!

Hi Jonas, thanks for the suggestions but for me the flute over the high strings is the best bit, sorry you don't like it. ; ) The harp stays, took me ages to get that sound ; ).There is an oboe doubling the flute in the middle section. Anyway, I know there's lots of room for improvement but this is what I had in mind. Hi Malcolm, nice to see you again. Thanks for the nice words, I always hope my tunes tell a story. Thanks, again : ) Rik

Hi Rik, It's Sunday and this is perfect! Great melody and textures. My only complaint is that it ended too soon. I'd love to hear something like this that incorporated your guitar playing...

yeah... I could hear that in a movie ..... nice work.... It certainly it is a bit different from normal for you. It's nice to do different things..... sort of cleansing to the musical soul.
