Nice song but I think the mix is off, and the voice is not loud enough in it, and the drums a little too loud.

beautiful piano riff. you have a great voice/ it should be more up front along with the bg vox (nice Seal-ish harmonies)
dig the clarinet(?) solo.  i agree w/ spacealf that drums are too prominent. aside from that, this is awesome.

Thanks guys. My ears may be burnt. I'll go in for round 2 and examine the drums.

Wonderful song. You have a great voice! It is mixed a bit dry, try add a little reverb. I think the drums are fine. I like songs with drums forward but that is just me.

Awesome groove. Drums not too loud just the lead vocal needs to come up a lot me thinks.

Really good chorus vocals there actually, but they all need more presence and spread. mroe like the chorus of this if you excuse the choice http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GFGPSx6cPN0

Is it a clarinet or a dull sax?!

Get a different snare sound (this is just too natural sounding for this type of music).

Maybe add some reverb to the sax. Something short and ambient.

And get a better compressor on your vocals, which are great but one shouldn't have to strain to hear.

This is a terrific song, and if you boosted the vocal a bit, it would be ready for prime time.  You've given us several great songs in a row, and I look forward to hearing more.

Funny how many of you mentioned verb.  I mixed the vox with plenty on there (EMT250), but I'm always of the mind that less is more.  I'll have to try it with a little more wet signal.  All the winds have verb on them already.  The clarinet even has a delay effect on it.

The chorus riff is a clarinet.  The solo is a flugelhorn (for those that inquired).

Also, vox compressed with LA2A.  I may bring it up a bit.

I'm headed in to massage the mix a bit more.  Thanks for the opinions.

Ok.  I've re-edited it.  I hope my ears didn't fail me today.

I'm taking a break from the studio and going to play Madden for a while. :-)

This is great stuff, great vocals. I personally would take out the drums and just have some percussion.

+1. My thoughts exactly. I like the strong drums, and the poppy snare. Overall groove is a little laid back, but the upfront drums give a high energy flavor... nice contrast. Also, really dig the brush textures. The BG vocals can come up a dB or so when the energy picks up a bit into it... e.g., BG on the first verse and chorus are good, but slightly buried when you get into the second chorus and onward when some of the instrumental fills out... Really good stuff.

    Hi, Reginald,

I didn't get to hear the first mix, but I think this one sounds fantastic!

Excellent, very soulful vocals, floating over a nice smooth bed of instrumentation and rhythm, and to me, the mix sounds just about perfect for the genre.

    Very nice work!

Man, that is smooth.  It seems radio quality to me as is.  I'm assuming this it the new mix.  I didn't hear the first but couldn't ask for any more from a tune.  Mellowed me right out while I was "chair boogyin".
