Electric Piano
In the Cakewalk tutorial regarding the Electric Piano, on the left hand side where the different types of styles are shown the is a section called Chords where is allows you to choose different chords. However I just noticed that that section is not include in the Sonar X1 Producer Expanded version that I have. Can anyone please advise me if it still is available and how I can obtain it? Thank's in advance for your help.

You'll have to be more specific about where you found that. Sonar does not have any kind of auto-accompaniment.

Hi there Jerry I've just checked my SI Electric Piano and I'm missing that 'CHORDS' options too. That's really weird. I know I used to have it somewhere along the line as I've used the feature once or twice. I wonder if others can check this, or if it's a known problem? I've only got 8.5.3 and X1 Expanded on my PC at the moment, and the 'chords' catergory is missing in both versions, in 64 bit and 32 bit flavours. Here's where the option should appear: And here's what mine looks like: It will be interesting to find out why this is happening, and how to put it right.

Gerry, I've just reinstalled my version of SONAR Home Studio 7XL on my old PC (to make certain the installation is totally clean) and the 'CHORDS' catergory is there: So something's definitely different with the later installation.

they add and remove features and other things from the programs all the time. That's why it's a good idea to keep the old versions on the machine..... there if you ever need them. I suspect that if you create a file or track with the chords feature in the version that has it...save that file and then re-open in the new version, it will very likely play the chords created in the early version.

I've found the folder on my old PC (Vista 32 bit OS, with the SONAR Home Studio 7XL installation I did yesterday) where the MIDI data for the 'Chords' is located: - Program Data > Cakewalk > Studio Instruments > SI Electric Piano > Patterns > Chords
This 'Chords' folder is missing on my newer PC - which has SONAR 8.5 and X1 Expanded installed on it. I've copied the 'Chords' folder across from the old PC to my new PC and placed it inside the 'Patterns' folder but the Electric Piano doesn't 'see' it (in either 32bit or 64bit version). I'm not that savvy when it comes to understanding these sort of things, but I'm guessing this isn't working because it may also need a registry change? In the meantime, I'll install Home Studio 7 on my new PC and get X1 to scan the version of SI Electric Piano that came on that disc.

Strummy - try renaming the patterns.lst file in the patterns directory. It is build on the fly from subdirectories that the synth finds.

scook Strummy - try renaming the patterns.lst file in the patterns directory. Thanks Steve - that did it! I just changed it to patterns2.lst and the 'Chords' folder I put in there is now being recognised. @ Gerry, if you haven't got an earlier version of SI Electric Piano, just PM me your email address I'll send you the chord MIDI files so you can do the same as I've done. BTW Steve, haven't seen you around since I first started using the GT forum, how's it going mate? Oh brother.... I needed that Lord knows I pants myself periodically but Pete is special I have not used the SI stuff but one does wonder why CW messes with the MIDI files they supply with it. Things have been very interesting in the last few years, glad I could help. Just keep that potty mouth in check

Hi there Gerry, I'm glad to help but Steve (scook) came up with the clever bit I'll organise the MIDI files and get them sent to you shortly. I've got your email now, so I'd recommend that you edit it out of your post above. The regular guys and gals are as good as gold but we do get the occasional spam-merchant trolling their way through here.

Too all those interested, after much time spent searching, I have finally found the CHORDS pattern in Sonar X1 Producer. In the browser area you can find them the following way: A) Sonar X1 producer> ptn midi patterns>pads>chords. B) Ptn midi patterns> pads>chords I also found out that, having the patterns this way, they can apply not only to the SI Instrument Piano but to almost any instrument chosen. Hope this will help. Again, Thanks to all.

Ah! No wonder I couldn't find them. On my laptop (which only has the 32 bit version installed) they are in: C:\Cakewalk Content\SONAR X1 Producer\PTN MIDI Patterns\Pads\Chords
