Reassigning instruments

I'm new to working in Sonar X1 Essential. I save Finale files as midi files and bring them into Sonar. I've figured out that to play these files in Sonar, I have to reassign instruments to each track. I use mainly Garritan Concert & Marching Band with the Aria player.

In the browser, I insert synth > vstplugins > Aria Player VST_x86. I can then reassign instruments in the Aria player, bringing up as many instances of the Aria player as I need.

My questions:

1. Is this SOP for reassigning instruments, or is there an easier or better way?

2. After I reassign instruments, how do I save the work so that on closing the file and reopening it, the instrument/track assignments reappear?

3. How do I play back just one track? Is that done with the solo button?

I apologize for asking what to some may be very simple questions.

Thanks.

    3. Yes. Solo is basically a reverse mute. You can also solo multiple tracks if you want to hear different combinations of tracks.
