Help MONO problems.

Hello, New Sonar X1 Producer user. I am trying to figure out the Audio Output. I use Line 6 so, I have both the input and output assigned to Line 6. Also, the WDM/KS instead of the ASIO. Everything is working and sounds clear etc...I think a tiny bit of latency, that I need to adjust. The problem is EVERYTHING is MONO! I would expect the guitars to be, because you are supposed to record two channels L and R in mono. Everything else should be stereo. So, If I do my project and want to mix how should I change this. I tried to change the output to REALTEK but it is static and noisy. Is there anyone that had similar problems and can explain a solution? Thanks Paintscraper

What do you mean by everything is mono? Don't think that because you are recording mono tracks that the final recording will not be in stereo. The rule of thumb is: if the thing you are recording is a mono instrument, record it on a mono track. That includes microphones, horns, guitars, bass, etc. If its a stereo instrument, such as a stereo synth keyboard, a stereo mic'ed piano, a guitar or bass through a stereo effects unit, then record it on a stereo track. To record a stereo track, you need to use 2 inputs on your soundcard. If you record a mono source (1 input) onto a stereo track, then you will only record either the left or right side of the stereo track and you won't be able to pan the sound. Mono tracks can be panned anywhere from full left to full right. Stereo tracks cannot be panned. You can only pan between what's recorded on the left side to what's recorded on the right side. Panning is important so can place the sounds recorded across the stereo field so that they can be heard more clearly and so that you get less interference from other instruments in the same frequency range.

Well, What I mean is everything is playing back in mono.  I see that you can select mono or stereo on the master.
I panned it to check and there is nothing on the right side at all.
I think if I can somehow get the output audio in preferences to be realtek and the input my line 6 then, the problem would be solved.
I'm not sure how to make it playback in stereo.
    Thanks for your help though.

I just got it to work, Line 6 input and Realtek audio output.
    So it's playback in stereo!
The only problem now is there's a little static.
    still working on it.

This is exactly what Dave was trying to tell you.
You don't have a mono track, you have a stereo track with the guitar on the left and silence on the right.
To record a mono track (which will be centered in the stereo field), select the Left input as mono, and set the stereo interleave (looks like a bowtie) in the track to mono.
This will give you a track that you can move in your stereo field.

Also, it's best not to use the Realtek with your Line6 interface. This will cause you lots of problems.
    Set everything to the Line6.

As for the stereo track recorded on one side, you can edit-bounce it to a mono track. To avoid doing that in the future, select one of the mono inputs on the track you are recording, i.e., Left (Input 1) or Right (Input 2) and not Stereo (Inputs 1/2).

O.K. Following the advice. When I record I'll leave everything line 6. When I complete the song, I can Change my preferences to Realtek and mix everything. Looks like I've got a lot to learn about mixing and all that. Thanks Paintscraper

NO. Forget the Realtek. Disable it. (Assuming it does function as an audio interface as well.I haven't got one).
