My friend, in my opinion, you definitely have an excellent set of very trustworthy ears!  Your comment about the slight difference in my guitar sound on this absolutely amazed me.  Because after getting the new computer setup and optimizing it, and then installing all of the software and plugins and reauthorizing and updating, when I finally got started doing some recording I noticed a slightly different overall sound, but mainly noticeable in the rhythm guitars.  At first I just attributed it to not recording anything for over five months, and not having my "studio ears" back yet.  As I recorded some more bits and pieces of a couple more test tracks, and then listened to a few of the previous songs from my CD, I kept noticing a very slight difference, as you mentioned, not necessarily bad, but just a bit darker (yet thinner) than usual.
 
So I started doing some back to back test tracks using the exact same guitar, same amps, same effects settings, all going through the same busses/effects and interface and monitors as always, and was still noticing a slight difference from the general sound of the earlier projects on the old PC.  It was driving me nuts, but I was determined to figure it out, so next I decided to check my Sonar audio/buffers settings and immediately noticed that apparently during one of the updates of the drivers for my interface, the Line 6 device control panel switched the record bit depth from 24 bit down to 16 bit.  I have always recorded in Sonar using 24 bit and then triangular dithered down to 16 bit when exporting the final mixes for CD.  Anyway, LOL, to make a long story even longer,  I changed the record bitrate back to 24 and did another test, and BANG!, all back to normal!  So I apparently have to do some very focused EQ surgery on the rhythm guitar and bass tracks on this song and the other three that I had already started before I detected and fixed the problem.

Thanks for checking it out, and for your kind words.  Yes, sir, you've got that right, after five months, I was really dying to get back up and running and start recording again.  I just hope that I can get my recording and mixing "chops" back in shape fairly quickly.  I remember that you mentioned having your DAW crash and burn for a few weeks over the summer, so I'm sure you know what it's like to really miss being able to do this stuff!

Yep, I think I might have jumped in early on the final chorus for the "Can it" and then hesitated and paused maybe one beat too long before the "Be the same" to try to make up for it.  I think that's what it has to be, because when I mute the vocal buses the timing seems perfect with just the music playing.  Hopefully a "scissors and nudge" in one direction or another will tighten it back up.  I've heard it so many times that it's hard for me to be sure that's what the little timing glitch actually is.

By new DAW, I mean a new PC.  For recording software I'm still using good old Sonar PE 8.53, although, I must say the latest video for X2 has me chomping at the bit to check it out when the demo is released for a possible upgrade!

Yes, sir, it's always a major pain reloading and reauthorizing, reupdating and transferring software and project backups to a new system, but it's always worth it in the end when you finally get the bugs worked out.  Other than the strange little bitrate glitch that I mentioned above to Bapu, which had me baffled for a while, I think I'm back to smooth sailing again.
 
Thanks again, Kev, and that was a pretty cool repost of your first ever song forum post from way back in 2008.  That was a nice trip down memory lane.

As I mentioned to Tim up above, I think the slight timing glitch at the last chorus might be in the vocal tracks, because with all the vocals muted, it doesn't seem to be there.  I'm going to try to see if a nudge or two might be able to fix it up.  It's funny, when I'm mixing, it's easy to listen to this stuff so many times that you can actually get "immune" to some of the little inconsistencies, and sometimes that makes them hard to put you finger on.  To me, that's part of why this forum is such a great place, because you have so many very talented, helpful sets of ears to help pinpoint the little flies in the ointment.

Thanks for checking in on this one for me and for your kind comments and observations.  I have a feeling the brightness you mentioned on the drums might be a bit of magnified contrast to the accidentally darker (or just different) than usual guitars caused by my accidentally recording everything in 16bit after the driver update error that I mentioned to Bapu above.  I'm hoping to smooth things out a little with some EQ blending on tracks and buses to try to get things glued together a bit better on the remix.

Hi Bob, nice to meet you, great song. I had to listen to everyones songs this morning with my DT100s on.. not the best way. I felt this one definitely needed my HR824s to do any justice to it :). If I may make one critique, some of the guitar balance is a little off still against the drums.. but, again, could be my headphones not giving me much of the bottom end.

Hey this song rocks as all of your songs do , one thing I did noticed is at the beginning in the mix .
I'm getting one sound in my right headphone , five seconds later I get all sound in both ears .

After everyone's observations, for the remix, I added a touch of grit with a bitcrusher to the bass guitar, did a little bit of EQ surgery on the bass tracks, beefed up the low end on the drum bus a little bit and low-passed out some of the brightness that a few of you mentioned on the drums.
 
Hopefully it's sounding better, and the overall volume levels are still pretty even.  Please let me know if you think anything way out of whack!

After both you and Mark mentioning the overly bright drums, for this second mix I beefed up the bottom end on the drum bus a little bit and slid down the low pass filter a few notches to try to take the edge off the high end a little and control the "contrast" with the dark rhythm guitars.

Thank you very much for taking time to give this song a listen and for your kind words and observations.  As I mentioned to Paulo above, for this second mix I took your advice, along with Paulo's and Mark's, and pumped up the low end on the drum bus a bit and pulled out some of the highs to alleviate some of the brightness.  I'm hoping it did the trick and that it will have a little more bottom end on your headphones and monitors.
