I saw a picture

of Billy Gibbons in a guitar mag and he was
holding one of these. The best I remember the
controls were straight though.

I loved that it was so clean that I'm going to build one
if I can build the pup for it.

I had an old Jap made Strat with a single HB on it that
was a fantastic guitar.

I wish the LP didn't feel so small to me. I may enlarge the
body and go with a longer scale length.

Can ya believe that price?! What is all that money for?
I'll be sure to put "custom" on mine lol.

"What is all that money for"?

There is a surtax for being stupid enough to pay that apparently. While it's a nice enough looking guitar, there is no way it's worth that kind of money to me. I have owned my Les Paul for close to 15 years and I like it well enough, but I wouldn't buy another new Gibson anything with the prices they are asking. It's just ridiculous IMO. But as a wise hustler once said, "Nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public".

They probably give them to him Bapu.

I wish I had kept all my old Les Pauls Randy.
I bet I could buy a lot of nice wood for that kind of surtax.

I'm certain it's a carve top but the photo of it verticle it appears
to be a flat-top. I really like seeing it like that.

I had a '59 Melody Maker with a P-90. It was cool but seemed
to much like a toy...I set it up for slide and played it for a short
    time before trading it off.

P-90s? I have P-90s! This was at my old house.

Here is one of her sibings (a better picture than mine, but they look almost identical)... I can't seem to post the pic so here is a link: http://www.flickr.com/photos/petelacis/3266145375/

Mine is #17. It was the first year for the Suhr LE series. He made 35 of these. It sounds and plays as good as it looks... maybe better.

Looking at these old pictures makes me realize I need to get off my butt. I had things set up over at the old place. I'll post a few more pics of my old room.

Wow. That is a totally ridiculous price. I think I own one of the most unique sounding and value for money Les Pauls ever made. The maple bodied and necked Les Paul Studio Raw Power, circa 2009. They only sold for £550 ($750 ish dollars at the time) in the UK and attracts attention for all the right reason everywhere it goes.

But $3,899.99 for a single pup model, no matter how tarted up ! Nah...

Wait for the Epiphone knock off. It will be affordable.. though, I don't think I would ever wan't a single P-90 guitar. There are places where you really need two to stop the noise. Those CS guys must be well paid!!

    Yes, yes I do.

BTW, if you have questions while making pickups you should talk to Wolfe Mcleod. He has always seemed to be a good guy and he has always seemed to be accessible. I've known him from online since 1997 and the old HCGF. Ibet he would be willing to answer any questions if you get stuck. http://www.wolfetone.com/lore.html

That's a lot of dough for a one-trick pony.  Personally, the rest of the guitar looks so nice and clean, why the heck couldn't they put better looking knobs on the thing???  Maybe a cool, dark black knob with a gold dot?  Actually, a gold knob with a black dot would be killer!

Still, I'd say the price point should be around $750.

    Re:I saw a picture 2012/08/29 18:42:54 (permalink)
J I think he meant that manufacturers like Gibson, Fender etc. would try
to give him stuff...I don't know.
Thank you but man... I'm such a beginner I don't even know any good questions.
I really thought after reading to gather info- just to see if I wanted to dive in
that the best thing to do is get the "mechanics" to the point where I could
actually make them...I didn't even know if I could handle trying to handle wire that small LOL.
I sure will ask him J when I do get stumped. Those guys at the other forum scare me...they get
hot quick. I haven't got envolved...just read and try to learn.
That's a great point you make about a single...gave me something to look into/think about.
I don't remember having issues with the Melody Maker and I did use it on stage for some slide
    work.

Once I get to the point where I can build a pup then I can take the next step...whatever
that is. Right now all I've done is rewind a couple. Handling the wire wasn't as bad as I thought.

Since they offer a good selection of kits I thought it would be good to try and build what is offered
    and the P-90 is one.
When I saw that LP with one...man that got my attention. I have a LP and just to small for me so
I may just try to capture what I think it should be...for me.

Craig that nice and clean is what really got me too. That photo I mentioned the knobs looked much
better but I think some of that is because they were in-line much like a Tele.

Funny that you mentioned about the size, but that's how I ended up with a 25" scale for my customs.  I love a clean look and am a bit OCD about symmetry which is why my guitars are always double-cuts and I designed my own headstock...
