Moving up from Sonar X1 LE to Studio or Producer?

Hello, I'm new to this forum. I am looking for advice on which program to move up to from LE. I have a lot of experience with analog mixing and mastering, but new to digital computerized software. I would like to know if the VC-64 Vintage Channel is available in the Studio X1 version...or is available only in the Producer X1. I hope that most features I need are in the Studio version, but I'm willing to spend the xtra money if the Producer is significantly better. Thanks.

For the extra cost Producer is well worth it. No point in screwing around. Also if you snag it now you can get the free upgrade to X2 Producer when it comes out. Personally I snagged the Suite and it really does have everything you need (I did pick up a few extra VSTs for what I do but it wasn't NECESSARY). Welcome to the forum.

I think Producer is worth the extra.  It's not that Studio isn't fantastic, it is.  I had Studio for a long time (with Sonar 6) and never really found it wanting.

If you are used to mixing with analog desks, though, I think you'll find the ProChannel very intuitive.  It is based on a large format analog console.  I suggest you look at some of the videos on Cake site.  It's very intuitive, quick to use and, in my opinion, worth the upgrade to producer on it's own.

It will feel more familiar to you, I think, than some of the other plug ins.  It is expandable with several excellent extra modules.  And X2 (coming soon) will also feature "Console Emulation" (see Cake site).

The above posts from Beepster and JB are right. I would add the PC (pro channel) is the important difference. It makes X1 a unique DAW.

Besides, why not go whole hog?

Yanno... I guess I'm spoiled because I never even thought about the Studio users not having PC. Pro Channel is a massive reason why I decided to purchase Sonar in the first place. And now that I FINALLY have a full song tracked (just finished it a minute ago) Imma gonna get to open this sucker up for the first time. Hooray!

@John... Ya, man. This is really what I've been waiting for. Now that I have something to actually work with I'm psyched. I gotta shut down for the night but I just messed around with the v-64 classic compressor thingy on the master to see what would happen and... well very cool. Lots of neat ways to twist stuff around just with that one plug and obviously I have much more goodies. I tried out the percussion strip the other day too and that is one smokin' piece of awesome itself. Can't wait to fire it all up again tomorrow and get mixing. I may actually have something for the songs forum in the next couple of days. Hooray!!!
