J I'm glad you're enjoying this. No doubt I'm anxious
to hear the results.
Craig I wanted to see how things went for the Fender pups
before making others that I really don't have the guitars to
install them in.
I'm sure giving thought to building a guitar and putting a P-90
in it.
Oldd55 a PU winder recommended that I extend the wire on
the first one I rewound. I just didn't put enough wraps on it.
It's a technic that I need to learn anyway.
When I complete that and get them potted I'll be recording the
results for us to hear.
I thought I'd show the tool I made to push the top plate over
the magnets.
I also started on the bridge Tele pup.
The brass plated steel plate was held in place
by the magnets and the wax from potting but
I've read that putting a little silicone around the
bottom of the magnets and then attaching the
plate is additional help in preventing microphonics.
I'll be wrapping the Tele bridge like the vintage and
will be tapping the Strat pups I make.
The two rewinds are really just the learning pups to me.
The three Strat and two Tele pups I build and wind are
my main interests as they will be the results of the process
from the ground up.
I've spent a great deal of time trying to change the counter set-up.
I'm currently using a magnetic reed switch triggering the counter.
It stops counting @890 rpm's so I've been talking with some folks
that know about that kind of stuff- and now trying to see if a Hall Effect sensor
can be used or better yet, if I can put together a circuit with one that
will assure me of 100% count accuracy...accuracy of wraps is paramount.
I believe the count to be accurate with what I'm doing but it is limiting how
fast I can wind.
I would like to at least get to 2000 rpm's and accurate count. I know that
it can be done with IR proximity or the Hall Effect sensor...it's just figuring out
how.
Well this is as far as I can go. I'll be glad when
I have all the material and stock on the shelves.
Almost there.
When I charge the magnets I'll show how and the
tools I'll be using to do it and to check the gauss.
