console view question

was reading another post and this question came to mind. In the console view, if you right click in the window next to the fader, you get options for DB.. is there a proper setting for that? and what exactly does it do? I checked help, and didn't find anything, and really did not know what to search under here.,

It's just the resolution of the meter. I've never change from the default but nice to know you can.
It does not change any level, it just gives you different views of the same thing, more accurate or less accurate and all that stuff.

For example I like setting 'RMS + Peak' on the -24dB scale for tracking- When the sustained portion of the track is just popping in you know you're in the ball park for good nominal tracking levels.
If you happen to need a view that extends down low that option's there too. For the bus/master meters I'll go for the finer detail up in the top range with the -12' setting.
