Would you put....

...a humbucker in a telecaster? (Fender 52 reissue)

And if so, what type and where (neck or bridge)?

If it is vintage unless it already had a proper slot for the HB I would not have it routered out. That's brutal. However yes humbuckers sound good on teles. Depends on what style of music you are playing but many come with a chrome in the neck postion so try that out. Personally for most of the stuff I do I need a humbucker at the bridge. I don't think I've ever played a tele with a humbucker at the bridge though so I couldn't give you an opinion but I'm sure it would sound fine.

You can buy two of them. I know a bass guitar player a long time ago, took his Fender Bass and installed two humbuckers. Of course he had to route out the space for them, but afterwards, he loved it.

My Fender Thinline has 2. Well technically there are 2 humbuckers laying on my desk, and a gutted Thinline in a case, but it's temporary.

Been thinking about this for the last few days now, certainly longer than the past 24hrs anyway. I've decided that although a humbucker would add an extra dimension to my Telecaster I'm gonna go the 'other way.'

The 'other way' as in putting a set of even lighter strings on it and turning it into my funk guitar. I put a set of Ernie B's 08 gauge on it yesterday and I'm hooked. At last I've got that classic ringing clear as crystal tone with a bit of liquid sustain coming through my Vox AC15.

I think that some 70's guitarists even went as light as a set of 07's. Should be interesting.

Thanks for all of the responses. Guess I'm gonna have to buy another guitar for that humbucker sound : )

    Regards

I just can't imagine a guitar without one of them wacky bars on it ... just seems ... empty without them!
