Problem Exporting Audio in X1
Hello, I've been a Sonar user for a while now and it's been great. But I've just come across an issue for the first time where I'm not able to export audio. It's only happening in one project and I can't figure out what the problem is. When I go to export any audio whether it be a single track, multiple tracks or the entire mix, I get the "Processing Audio Data" msg and the progress bar but it keeps doing this repeatedly until I cancel it. It never gets to the "Mixing Down Audio" stage. I'm just wondering if anyone knows what the problem might be. It'll probably be something daft that I'm missing but I'd appreciate any help.

It would be good to know something about the project. You say this happens with a single audio track, too, so I'm most likely on the wrong tracks, but anyways.. For example, there are VSTs that do not tolerate fast bounce. If you have soft synths in the project, it might be good, in this case, to bounce them to tracks first. Or do you have FX in demo mode that is Save disabled or something (just speculating, I don't know if they can cause such symptoms).
SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre - Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc. The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

There are 18 audio tracks in the project. Dimension Pro is the only VST Instrument in the track. There were 3 Dimension Pro's in the track but I recorded all the audio from them and they are now turned off in the synth rack. Incidentally, this is the 1st time I have used Dimension Pro properly in a project, maybe it's caused an issue? Other than that, I don't have any FX running that I don't normally use. There is quite a lot of fx running. Normally I'd bounce the tracks once I was happy with them to take some pressure off the cpu but as I can't export audio, I'm kind of stuck for the moment.

How long did you wait? Sometimes it takes a while to mix down a project especially if there are a lot of audio or softsynth tracks.

I've left it to work for around half an hour. Normally it's only taken a couple of minutes at the most. And the "Processing audio data" progress bar only appears once then once the bar reaches the end, the "mixing down audio data" progress bar appears and then it's complete. But with this project the "Processing audio data" bar gets to the end and then goes back to the start again. It does this over and over.

If you are using Dim Pro, did you update it to the latest version? The latest is 1.5. Choo Shi-Hwei

Hi, Yes it's all up to date. I've now deleted Dimension Pro from the project using the synth rack (as I have the audio recordings I need anyway) and the problem still persists.

But with this project the "Processing audio data" bar gets to the end and then goes back to the start again. It does this over and over. This happens whenever I freeze BFD2 or Session Drummer. Sonar will make one pass for each audio track. It doesn't happen when Bouncing or Exporting, so this doesn't help you at all! Just try doing a bounce to clip on all tracks.

Similar to above idea, try outputing one track at a time (select a single track, not the whole enchilda) and see if maybe it's one track that is the culprit. If track one works, try track two, etc. Also, long shot, sometimes I've had a error pop up, but it's been offscreen (too far to the right for example). So things looked frozen, but were actually waiting for me to click ok or cancel (but I couldn't see them). Watch and see if Sonar window loses focus right about the time the progress bar stops?

It would be rare for normal synth rendering to take half an hour, although I have seen it happen with a slow bounce of a synth with many audio tracks. The first thing I'd do in this case is to start freezing tracks one at a time, watching for one of them to hang or take a very long time. Even if none do you'll still have greatly reduced the processing needed for the final export, and eliminated many plugins that could have been holding up the process. Another possibility is that you have a corrupt project file, or a corrupt audio file. In either case, freezing each track may pinpoint the problem. It could come down to a single audio clip that's corrupt, or a single plugin that only fails during a render.
All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to. My Stuff

I had this exact same problem last night on a project. I actually discontinued the bounce several times and restarted the process again thinking that something had hung up. In my case the project had two soft synth bounces and some pretty heavy rendering going on with mastering plug-ins and such. I also had numerous dual sends on several tracks.Lots of busses. Not sure what was the prime contributor to it but I found that if I just waited it seemed to process first and then mix down. It took some time and what I thought was the program starting over was actually multiple individual writes. After waiting the track exported perfectly. This was the first time I had such an intense mix, so maybe the intensity of the mix had something to do with it. I was also bouncing through my master buss loaded with Ozone 5. This is probably not recommended. It would have been better to make a master and then import to master with Ozone. That's a lot of number crunching going on at once. I would suggest waiting until it completes.

All great advice. I froze all the tracks individually. The issue seems to have been that some tracks have multiple sections of audio in them and these were the tracks that had to be processed over and over. If I had let it run when I wanted to export the entire mix, it probably would have eventually got there. Strange that I've never come across this before though. Cheers for your help guys
