Do not buy Z3ta+2 if you are on 10.6.8!!!!
Its stops working after a while and there is no way to get it going again. Even Cakewalk support do not know or will not help. I have mixes to bounce for clients that now instead of a carefully fine tuned lead are now just ear splitting noise!!!!

Those steps aren't really working. All it does is bring the plugin back to trial mode. 30 days from now you'll have to do it all over again...

Thanks for the tips guys. I might give it go even if it is just for 30 days so I can finish a couple of tracks and maybe by then cakewalk will have a solution. If I follow the KVR method do I have to save my own presets elsewhere to preserve them?

I got the latest installer and the registration window still wasn't appearing on launch after a complete uninstall and then a reinstall on 10.6.8. So what I did was install Mountain Lion on a separate HD, then installed Logic and Z3ta. The registration window popped up. I pasted my registration code. Then I found out that the registration code inputs into the "com.cakewalk.z3ta+2.0.xxxxxxxxxx.plist" file as the value "ProductKey". Now you don't have to go through all of that since I just did it for you... what you have to do is create a value called "ProductKey" inside that plist file, then input your registration code into that value, then save the plist file. Remember, that you will probably have to close and then relaunch your host after you do this if it's open for it to take effect. I think that the best fix might be for Cakewalk to update their installer to allow you to input the registration code at the time of install with the serial number.

This might be a stupid question (I'm fairly new to macs), but is there a special editor app for plist files? Any advice on how to add that entry into the file? I opened it with JEdit, and it looks like it's a compressed XML file or something.

The plist file "com.cakewalk.z3ta+2.0.xxxxxxxxxx.plist" is located in User > Library > Preferences > ByHost. You will need a Property List Editor or a similar app. The Property List Editor is a free app that used to come with Xcode. You can download it here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/xjx9q7

Thank you *very* much for theses instructions and your work. I am really and *very* pissed at Cakewalk for this bug which cost me the entire afternoon (believing that was my recent Cubase update which was the cause of that bug!)... Even more since they did not bother answering my 3 email asking for a invoice when I bought Z3ta 2+ this summer... That should be my first and last Cakewalk product!

Cacophonix That should be my first and last Cakewalk product! +1 I sure as hell won't be buying another Cakewalk product any time soon. I got the Dimension + Rapture + Z3ta bundle during the last Christmas sale only to find out that I can't use Dimension or Rapture because of Lion. At the time I wasn't all that annoyed because Lion was pretty new, but now it's been well over a year and there's still no official fix. It's not even the synth itself that's incompatible, it's the installer. For some reason they never got the installer's authentication system running on Intel (after 5 years of Intel Macs by the way), and Lion no longer supports the old architecture making their system useless. Apparently they can't fix their existing installer for the people who've already paid them, but they can port an entire product in the mean-time. I'm fully aware of the unofficial fixes, but quite frankly I shouldn't have to do that. I paid them full price for their products and I expect them to work under the latest hardware, especially considering they've had 6 years now to fix the issue. The fact that their support is this bad is inexcusable.

mine is ****ed also. nothing but, as the original poster put it, ear splitting noise. (i'm also on OSX 10.6.8) uninstalling and reinstalling does not fix the problem although i am a bit confused about all this registration window business people are mentioning - i have no problem with that. each time i've reinstalled (a few times now) it asks me what my rego code is, no problem getting that part working. are these two separate problems or do they have something common? man z3ta 1 was buggy as hell on my PC, pretty pissed off that z3ta 2 is buggy on the mac.
