X2 Producer 'Expanded'?
I'm a bit confused about what's in the ProChannel suite in Sonar X2 Producer. I have Sonar X1 Producer Expanded and just bought the upgrade to X2 with the pre-sale special today. I have most/all of the ProChannel tools, but not the extra Softube iLok stuff. So, are there going to be new versions of the ProChannel devices or will the install of X2 Producer automatically give me a version of X2 Producer 'Expanded' with my current ProChannel stuff. Or will the 'expanded' term just get dropped going forward? Another question is about the download, when it comes. I hope it will be in pieces because I already have Dimension Pro, and Rapture (and Zeta 2) full versions, so I don't want to have to download all their samples again if I can help it. In other words, will the download be split in such a way that we can bypass anything we already have and not miss anything? Otherwise, I might just order the box to get the DVDs and skip all the downloading... EDIT: Please make sure that the main Producer software, at least, is isolated, so that we can download that quickly, and maybe get the boxed version later.

Let me speak wherein I know nothing: X2 Producer IS what X1 Producer Expanded WAS... and more! IOW, X2 Producer includes everything X1 Producer Expanded had. So not to worry about loosing those cool features. Steve

In my experience, the download is never too bad. And the good thing about being able to download a day BEFORE everyone else is that the servers will be alot faster. Which will make it faster for everyone else on the day of release. Smart decision Cakewalk!

In regards to your first question, all the ProChannel modules you had in SONAR X1 Producer Expanded will be included in SONAR X2 Producer. There is no SONAR X2 Producer Expanded, it's just SONAR X2 Producer. As for your second question, I do believe the files will mimic the disk installs. So if you have Dimension Pro, you don't need to download and install it again.

Form what I have read and from the Webinar last night I got the impression that the Pro Channel flexibility introduced in Expanded has now been included in Producer. However the extra modules are not. Wookiee's have been known to incorrect though.

Hey guys ... I'm very new to this Cakewalk forums. I have a question regarding the Cakewalk SONAR X2 Producer (From X1 Producer Expanded). Is this a stand alone program? ... or is it an add-on to an existing release that wont work without the first one already in your computer? I see that Sweetwater has it for sale for just $99.00(although currently out of stock). Do I have to have an earlier release of this program, and THIS one just upgrades it? ... or do I just install and run? Thanks for any input! ... :-) G

It's not clear from your post whether or not you currently own a Cakewalk product If you do then you'll qualify for an upgrade at a cheaper price than the full version. The upgrade is a full installation and not an add on to a previous product. If you do have a current product, leave it on your system - don't delete it (ever!) if you're going to install X2 - there are shared folders which X1 & X2 need in order to function properly.

Guitarzan... If you do not currently own a version of Sonar you have to pay full price. I'm not sure what the going rate is but it's like $400-500 for X2 Producer which is the flagship product. The $99 is for current users. Welcome to the forum.

BTW you can buy the more basic versions of Sonar like Essentials or Studio for significantly less. They will give you quality recording capabilities but don't have all the extra goodies. Check out this comparison chart to see what will work best for you... http://www.cakewalk.com/p..cts/sonar/versions.aspx

Thanks guys! .... I don't currently own any Cakewalk software. So, I wasn't sure if this was an upgrade from a previous version ... or if I could just load this Cakewalk SONAR X2 Producer (From X1 Producer Expanded) and just rock. The red flag here was that everybody else seemed to be asking $400-500 dollars for the program, yet Sweetwater is only asking $99.00. I figured it must have been just an upgrade. Thanks again. G

@Guitarzan5150 Do take a look at the comparison chart. The X2 Essentials has the exact same audio engine and all of that - just does not have some of the upper-end inclusions. But it is certainly much cheaper, and if you ever chose to upgrade after that you would get a discount moving from Essentials up to say Producer. You can also download a free X2 demo, and play around with it for 30 days, to decide what you would actually use (Pro Channel, etc). But to get you into X2, Essentials might be a place to start. (but do the demo since it's free). Hope that made sense, Bob Bone

Side note, and little known fact... The Ray Stevens song "Guitarzan", of course, was a parody (an imitative work created to mock, comment on or trivialise an original work, its subject, author, style, or some other target, by means of satiric or ironic imitation) of the early American character Tarzan who played a guitar while swinging through the trees. The idea came from listening to the line Bright stars and guitars and in the old song Popcicles and Iciicles by the Murmaids written by David Gates of Bread fame. Boring, I know.

arachnaut I'm a bit confused about what's in the ProChannel suite in Sonar X2 Producer. EDIT: Please make sure that the main Producer software, at least, is isolated, so that we can download that quickly, and maybe get the boxed version later. you can download it in sections. Do the custom install to avoid installing Rapture again. All the pro channel modules you have from X1 will work. there are some extra modules as well like console emulation. Breverb fits in the Pro Channel like a module too. and of course the FX chains fit within the pro channel. There is additional content to download. mainly loops and stuff like that.. everything is broken down into smaller parts for downloading. congratulations on your upgrade.
