any recommended sub $100 interfaces?

First the Alesis IO|2 had a bunch of issues with drop outs and funny high pitched noise in the recorded signal, record level problems.  Then I ordered a TASCAM 122mkII and it also has drop outs, recording has some funny clicks and pops.

I'm guessing neither has a "true ASIO" driver as Cakewalk recommends configuring the IO|2 to MME and the mkII to WDM.  There is a "generic low latency ASIO driver" provided with the mkII but it must be a shim as the ASIO driver for the IO|2 is said to be.

I had an old mAudio 8 channel interface but that was 1394 and the new 'puter didn't do 1394.  In retrospect I probably should have kept that interface and gotten a card, huh?

I'm a bit frustrated and just want to be able to work again.  Anything you'd recommend?

    "I should mention I'm using Producer X1 and Win7."

Then your still in the wrong forum, this is the 8.5 and older.

There's nothing wrong with Tascam 64bit drivers. I own one and it's a good piece of gear. There were issues a few years back with the 32 bit drivers.

You problem is system configuration related then. Read this thread and you'll see this guy's been working on this same issue for a few months now.

Native Instruments has a 2 out one with no ins..  I forget what its called..  I used to own, it was $99 and it rocked!!!!!!!!!!!!!   Its the only < $100 audio interface I can reccomend...

I go through more < $100 audio interfaces than I do Red Bull...   I am not buying any more of these crap interfaces...  I am saving up to get something right!!!!

Roland just released the duo capture btw...  that is worth a look..   I am interested in the quad capture, but I might go duo

Thanks much, Cactus.  I'll fuss with things again this evening and follow up on the X1 forum if necessary.  Sorry, I don't come by here often.  Only when I have a problem.

My old computer was a cheapie, totally generic, and ran big projects just fine.  I had frankly expected to have to tweak that one or get another drive, but it lit right up.

The one I just got is 6 years newer so I'd really thought it would have no issue doing audio.  CPU usage seems to ride nice and low.  I'd assume I'd have the disk bandwidth--I'll look at the Resource Monitor tonight.

Again, the initial project is straight audio, a little SONAR reverb on an effects bus, but that's it.

Try and add your system specs to your signature too, it helps everyone a lot to know these things when troubleshooting issues, Good luck.
