The Dewd who was Bewed
There is this food stand called the " Dewd With The Food" around here and this reminded me of a time when I was almost bewed or was that booed ;)..anyways I was playing trumpet at the time in front of like 300 people with another trumpeter in a duet. I was slightly nervous and you can really tell that with a brass instrument because if your lips quiver it comes out in the sound. I was somehow able to keep my lips steady and I thought all was well when halfway through the performance this elderly guy stands up and shouts" You guys sound like the salvation army band!!!" then proceeds to sit back down. I'm not sure if he was on medication or just feeling testy that day, maybe his drawers were a little too tight who knows. It might have been a compliment because I have heard some pretty good Salvation army bands. But I think it had a negative connotation. I have never had any large fruit hurled my way thankfully or any hard objects that I'm aware of. How about you? Have you ever had a similar experience?.

I've had someone sit in the front row and threaten to send me into the next life in an extremely gory manner if I played too loud. It was my very first gig. I was somewhat nervous. I was 13 at the time. I barely escaped with my life. Funny thing about that experience was that I never again ever experienced stage fright.

Played in a three-piece many years ago..doing a support to an up-and-coming local band. I came out first and did a minute or so of sub-par-Andy Summers/Gilmour delay guitar nonsense, followed by the drummer who joined in. The singer/bassist made his big entrance last, hit the first bass note and the bass amp promptly fell off the stack and crashed onto the stage. Singer ran off stage to the sound engineer and punched him, as if it was his fault.. I lamely crept to the mic and said 'goodnight..' which was greeted by a resounding ''**** OFF!"!'' from the crowd.

I've never been booed thak God, but I have been paid to leave before. LOL! I played a gig when I was in high school for an 8th grade graduation. We were actually a good little band, but they rented an ambulance hall and it was small. Us being younger, we didn't run our instruments through a pa or anything...we just turned up so we could hear ourselves. Well it was definitely loud, but I didn't think it was ear bleeding loud. The girl that has the party's father came up to me and said "We have elderly people in here that are ready to pass out, one is saying she may be having a heart-attack and well, how much would it take for you guys to pack up and leave like...right now?" LMAO! Ah Starise, I can so relate with the whole trumpet thing! God forbid you get "quiver lips" man....it's over! I remember playing out doors with a friend of mine. We were actually quite decent and were doing what we thought was a good job. Me on Trumpet ( I still have a killer silver Bach Stratovarious) him on sax. All of a sudden, a neighbor yells out to us "hey, can you play far far away?!" to which I yelled back "no, Sir, we don't know that song" and he yells "ffs" and slams his door shut. LOL!

It hit me like a year later that he meant "go away kid...far far away!" I think I asked my mom if she ever heard of a song called "Far far Away" and she said "no". LOL! So when I answered him, I was answering honestly thinking he was an older dude and was requesting some old standard that was before my time. LOL! -Danny

I've never been booed off stage. Ignored, yes. Booed, no. Then again, Mooch has not been to a live singing performance of mine.

Sorry I have been under the radar here, nothing personal :) Bubba- I see you are still here so you must have turned the volume down, either that or you fought and came out on top.Glad we still have you around. James- It seems you helped to calm the crowd and you were not directly involved. Everyone left alive right? Danny- I never had you pegged for a trumpet player but come to think of it the trumpet is like the guitar in a concert band. I never had anyone ask me to turn my trumpet down which is a miracle in itself because I used to put the window up and let er' wail. I am sure glad I changed instruments although sometimes I think about picking it up again. Bapu- Glad you have never been booed...not even on halloween?

Not that one , no valves, thanks though. I actually have an old bugle in the attic, makes a decent way to call cows only I don't own any cows and I don't particularly want to call any of the local cows over.

I was once dragged off the stage by my left leg mid number in the Croxteth British Legion Club in Liverpool (Rough part of the city) This Neanderthal looking bloke I guess just thought it would be funny. When I realised I was going to go over the edge of the stage and he wasn't going to let up, I had to jump off to avoid landing in a broken heap. Unfortunately the momentum of the guitar after I landed broke the strap, I ended up holding my guitar vertically by the neck in my left hand, and this brute then started trying to play my guitar, STILL thinking he was being hilarious. Finally some more decent members of the crowd dragged him off me. What did the band do? Carried on playing as if nothing had happened, actually scared stiff it transpired afterwards. I slunk back on stage and finished the number off perched on my amp, pondering if it was worth it all....
