Odd Acid Loop Problem

I recently downloaded some acid loop sets onto my new computer (W7/64), and find that they don't all work in Sonar X1 (but some do). The ones that don't work will preview in Sonar via the media browser (I can hear them play), but I can't insert them onto the timeline.

I did notice that by right-clicking an acid file to view the file's properties page, there is sometimes a warning to the effect that the file came from another computer and might be blocked to protect my computer. But I downloaded the files directly from the seller (Big Fish Audio), and never had this probelm before. Researching this on Google, I found that by copying the files to a FAT32 drive and then back again, the files would lose this attribute. But they still didn't work properly, and besides that I have other loop sets which display this warning and they DO work. So I'm not convinced that warning has anything to do with the problem.

Checking with BFA, they told me I should always disable Norton antivirus when downloading from them, so they sent me new download links and I tried again, but they still don't work. (I've downloaded other sets from them with Norton ON, with no problem.)

On that same properties page there are some options re permissions, and I checked full control for every user listed, but the files still don't insert to the timeline.

Oddly enough, a set I bought years ago which never worked properly (would not loop or conform to project pitch), now works on this new computer.

Any thoughts?

The loops may be time-stamped and when you bring them in, they're being placed at something like 1:00:00:00 in the timeline. Try this: Go Edit > Preferences > File > Audio Data and uncheck "Always import Broadcast WAVs at their timestamp." Re-import the files. Does that help?

If not, remember this anyway, because you will run into samples with this problem at some point in the future!

Also, acidization is highly variable, depending on the library. Some are acidized very well, some you'll have to tweak a whole lot. The best libraries by far in terms of acidization are Sony's...or any that I've acidized

    YEEEEEEEEESSSSS!!!

That was it! I spent 2 days trying to figure this out. Funny...I did wonder if maybe the loops were being placed later in the timeline, and I looked but saw nothing. And why these files are timestamped is beyond me.

I too have found SONY loops to be the best quality.

Btw, I read your "Home Recording for Musicians" back in 1979, bought a TEAC A3440 (4-track RTR) in 1980, and have been hooked ever since. I still have that book...and the TEAC. Time and technology have marched on, but the concepts in that book were a good grounding, and still relevant.

    Many thanks for your help.
