nice for a short and sweet quick demo.

the guitar sounds pretty good. it has a nashville "acoustic brushing" sound to it.  Light and airy.

The chord after "on the west coast " sounds a bit strange.... in all places it occurs.... the bass note is not in compliance with the chord.

    good job.

Mike, this song has a lot of potential, and your demo is nice and tasty.  The acoustic is well recorded, though, on the bright side.  The part lends itself to double tracking and panning opposite each other, but the volume would have to come down a bit.  Your singer has a nice voice, and she could use a light touch of a limiter in spots to catch those peaks.  As I hear it now, there's a lot happening in the center of the stereo spectrum, but not so much on the sides.  The song seems a bit long, but if it was fleshed out and carefully arranged, it could really shine and the length wouldn't be so noticable.  All in all, considering the time you put into this project, you are on the road to success.

    All the best,
    Lynn

Yes Sir I agree with ya Lynn, my thoughts exactly now that I gave my ears a break and came back to it. (Guess I need breaks often  ).  Working on all of it now.  Im trying to find a good mix with my acoustics compared to her guitar to add that wider stereo field with the extra guitar. (Im to picky I guess on what I want as far as sound).

Im not a bass player but I think after about an hour of farting around I miht have found something that works in that BAD note area.

Ill repost when I get it lined out again.

Thanks a BUNCH for the extra ears and comments/suggestions!!! MUCH Appreciated

    Hi Mike,
It's a nice song....I think needs some mids...the guitar is a bit too present in the upper frequency spectrum around 4K and it could probably be doubled and panned out wide. I'd grab a reference track to A/B with. I think Sugarlands "Joey" has an example of acoustic guitar with the sound that you're thinking of (tho that might be a 12 string)....your track is more strummed than that one but I think it has the right acoustic guitar sound. Might be a good song to listen to for drum production ideas as well.

Incidentally, what mics are you using?

Im working on the mids, I do have the guitar turned up in the 4k so backig it down and working on some other areas in the mids. Good song for ref (Sugarland-Love 'em).

Im a low budget home project as far as equipment.

Using AKG 220 and CO2 mics, the only others I currently have are an Audix I5, Shure 56's, Akg D112.  They seem to be doing okay for catching this level of recording but I would love to upgrade to better quality once I learn the recording/mixing side alot better

    Thanks for the comments

    Mike,

That acoustic sounds really sweet. The bass and drums are just right. The vocals are wonderful. Kind of a cross between Sheryl Crow and Alanis Morrisette, IMO.

Glad you chimed in Ed.  Ive been beating my head on that note.  It does sound out/off or something.  I play guitar and not bass so was kinda lost on that note. Not quite sure what the note is (Capo 3rd and its some sort of A chord played way up the neck)  The guitar sounds good but when ya add that A on bass-Hmmm  not sure LOL.

Still trying though and adding a little more to the bass licks on it (Very basic on this take cause it was just getting vocals and guitars in-so drums an d bass were/are kind of a click track of sorts)

    Thanks

    Hey Mike
I really like the chord progression.  Very well written with a catchy hook. Mix has a nice live vibe. She did a great job on the vocal delivery.  IMO the only nit I have is the same as Lynn . . . the song is long.  Glad to see you back.  GREAT JOB!

    Hiya Kev,
    Good to be back.
Been out doing live shows on a mono PA System (No Panning ability), hence the sound has followed me back into recording
Good place to get back on track and get my eyes and ears back on track.
I think she is planning on working in some picking/lead areas as well as some vocal harmonizing, which might be where some of the length comes into play. Ill have to wait and see what she comes up with. Shes young and I want her to have all the say in the layout, but being able to throw in suggestions from the outside.
    Thanks

Wow, this is cool. She's got a nice voice.  Guitar sounds good to me.  I like the tune.  Sorry I can't help any more than that with the mix.  :(

So, farting around is what it takes to be better at the bass?  Thanks for the tip!  :)

    Sorry I missed ya Daryl,
Yeh I hope she makes something good out of it.  Its wonderful to see a persons face light up never having heard anything other than her voice with acoustic guitar and to go something that looks promising with everything else added. I just hope I can do her good with something to go off of (whether just an idea put down, a demo, or ???)

I did get that questionable note sorted out I think. It was just one of those things you listen to so much ya miss it. I do think its better now though. (Thanks Herb  )

Nice voice and a very nice melody too! The track sounds a bit too compressed when the chorus comes in. I would add some instruments in the mid range because it is kind of empty there.

Lynn-Thanks, I spent the last couple days playing with it and finally got them to a point where I was happy with them.  Seems to have the biggest trouble with getting just the right amount of wet mix to make them sound right to me. Guess Im to critical on myself.  Thanks again for the listen

vechung-Thanks for the listen & post. We are looking at adding some embellishments with the strat and bringing in some more 12 string maybe. I believe the 12 will not bring up the mids much but with the strat it might.  Ill have to wait and see what out lead player is going to come up with for it before I make more changes. Thanks again!!!

I can't believe you recorded this in 2 and a half hours... I take 2 and a half hours on a good dump? A week is really fast for me. I really like your singer. She's just a tiny bit off in just a few spots, but it's really just "chacter" for the song. Just a natural full voice with a wonderful colorful character. The guitars on this one may be high passed a bit too much. They could use some more body down there at 200-400K. Or you need something else there to fill it out like a piano, or something.
