Layers to lanes
In the seminar it was mentioned that, with the addition of take lanes in X2, tracks will no longer have layers. When opening a project in X2 that was recorded in X1 using layers, will the layers automatically show up as take lanes?

From what I was told they should just turn into lanes. I was concerned about that as well. I'm gonna experiment with it first though just to make sure I don't screw something up.

Great question! I have used a lot of layers in X1 projects.....one would hope that X2 will make the translation for us? I'm anxious to see if any of the bakers will respond authoritatively!

I'm very interested to see how lanes will differ from layers in a real-world project. I mean, just because we now call them "lanes" and they are presented a little differently by the UI, does it really mean anything has changed? Layers could get very messy in Sonar and sometimes unexpected things happened when you attempted to get rid of unused layers, or compress them. I'm looking forward to how this plays out in X2.

@Silicon Audio... It looks like it's gonna be a million times better. They seem to be just scaled down tracks which is exactly what I wanted. I have recently learned the horrors of too many layers quite recently. It was a necessary improvement IMO.

Seth Perlstein [Cakewalk ] Thought I answered this question in another thread. Yes, layers will open automatically in lanes in X2. SP Sorry. I guess I didn't see that thread.

If you haven't, you should watch the recent Webinar on X2. The way Brandon and Seth used the "lanes" was really impressive. Lanes and Takes are two capabilities I should be using more, but have always been slightly confused by the clutter they added and keeping track of it all. X2 seems to simplify the whole process as well as the management of both. Best, Rob

For me, this may be the best new feature of X2. I can't wait to give it a try. Layers could be confusing when everything worked right, and impossible when you tried to delete or rebuild and things wound up scrambled.

I'm curious how bouncing to 1 clip from multiple lanes will behave...
