Funny ebay thing happened to me a couple of weeks ago. I will preface by saying I really don’t know anything about guns. My father (now in his 80’s) was a purchasing agent for a now defunct discount department through the 60’s and 70’s and bought a lot of toys. Until recently he had a basement full of unopened toys and samples but has gotten rid of a lot of it. I recently took from the remaining pile some toy cap guns from a company called Kilgore dating to the late 60’s and early 70’s. Two of the cap guns were completely unopened and one set was new with the box but the plastic had been removed … probably used in a photo shoot.
I listed one of the cap guns sets (the one with the plastic removed) on ebay only to have the item taken-down. That was the first time in more than 13 years of trading on ebay that something like that had happened to me … I violated the rules. Apparently, you are not allowed to sell cap guns, even these old toy ones where the red cap paper gets pulled through the gun unless, you plug the barrel with a red marker or more correctly a “blaze barrel plug permanently attached”.
So if I wanted to sell the two cap guns that are sealed in their original packaging (anywhere), I will have to open the packages and plug the barrels. I really do understand the point behind the regulations … it is just unfortunate that I would have to open a MIB vintage toy to sell it. I think I am just going to figure out a way to display them and keep them MIB.
Here is one of the photos I posted on ebay:
