Audio problem

Afternoon all, apologies for the newbie question is advance!! Bought Sonar X1 Producer during the week and thought I'd spend the weekend playing about. Have been using Cubase 5 for the last 3 years, was going to upgrade to Cubase 6 but Sonar X1 was just too tempting to took a leap of faith and changed software!!

Before I dive into my query, as above I have Sonar X1 Producer (with relevant updates C&D), Line 6 UX2 (all drivers up to date) and PC spec as follows:
AMD A8-3870 3.0 GHz quad core
Asus F1A75-M: FM1 A-Series
16gb RAM at 1600MHz
1TB HD
nVidia 9500GT graphics card
Windows 7 64bit
All drivers up to date

Now as per the title, my problem is actually getting my audio to work. In the Sonar preferences, Audio > Playback and Recording I have selected Driver Mode > ASIO, Dithering > Rectangular.

Option above, Driver Settings, Playback Timing Master, only option is ASIO UX2 Output 1-2 and for Record Timing Master only option is ASIO UX2 Send 1-2.

Again option above, Devices, I have ticked the only 2 options in Input Drivers - ASIO UX2 Send 1-2 & ASIO UX2 Send 3-4. Output Drivers I have ticked the only option there - ASIO UX2 Output 1-2.

All options also are selected for 24 bit and sample rate of 44100.

When setting up a new project, I insert new audio track, CTRL2 and pull window right down. Under input I get the option on the ASIO UX2 (2 in, 1 out) of the following - Left ASIO UX2 Send 1-2, Right ASIO UX2 Send 1-2, Stereo ASIO UX2 Send 1-2 and the same again but ending 3-4. I have gone through and sekected each of these.

Output I have tried both ASIO UX2 Output 1-2 and Master - then gone to Master track and selected ASIO UX2 Output 1-2 from there too. With all combinations I get nothing! Nothing showing on bars within Sonar or on UX2.

I have been sat here for about 8 hours trying all different things and am losing my marbels!! Please, any help is much appreciated. Apologies for the ton of info, but would rather give too much than too little.

Looks like it should work. That's how mine is setup but a different card. Click my interface in devices, choose it in driver settings and it was working as I remember. I have a KA6 Under playback and recording, have you tried the different driver modes? When I change that to ASIO it loads a generic ASIO driver that works but the driver written for my interface is WDM. I prefer it. Usually in this situation I try everything. Is there playback software like a control panel? A setting there maybe or does it show input coming from the DAW to the card? Chords all plugged in right? The interface works with other programs? All I can think of.

I don't know how to keep this board from removing all the spaces and line returns.

Thanks for the response. Works fine with standalone programs and when playing the demo track, just changing the Master output to the UX2 gets it working, appears it's just struggling to record incoming guitars - although is fine through POD Farm 2 standalone.

Whe  playing guitar through UX2 into X1, no signal on meters in X1 or UX2. Will give WDM another go later, thought I'd go with ASIO initially as all I've read on the web is how this is the optimum one to use. Each to their own I suppose.

    Thanks again

I have used the line 6 studio/x2. When you say nothing is showing up on the bars do you meters? I had this same problem. my workaround was to get a preamp. One of the problems with the UX2 is the fact that it is powered by usb. While gearbox and Podfarm seem to work outside of Sonar. the signal was not strong enough to register. I have no problems with my Pod x3 pro. this only seems to be a problem with the USB powered devices, like UX 1 and UX2

The work around for me was simple. I purchaseda preamp and plugged my guitar through that. Then I went to the x2. This increased the input and I could now see the meter or the bars.

I purchased an art tube preamp from musicians friend for 29 bucks. They still have them. without the preamp I got no audio because the signal was not strong enough. this is a problem with the UX2 not with Sonar. other line 6 devices work fine.

here is the preamp I used to solve this issue

Thanks for all your help guys! Got a bit stressed with it yesterday so had a night away from it. Jumped back on it today and managed to get audio working with WDM.

Although has now cocked up my MIDI inputs/outputs. Will crack on with that this week though.

Once I get used to Sonar, I'm sure I won't regret the change from Cubase to Sonar!!

    Yes yes yes.

    We know.

But....... for this forum, firefox is too advanced. This forum software is over three years old and in some cases portions of it are older than that.

Well, it doesn't work in this one and its VERY slow. Its starting to make IE look good. Chrome is the best. Why should anyone use less?
