Core i7, built in graphics good enough?

Hey guys!

I'm about to build a new system and the plan I've got is to build it around an i7 3770K.
Do any of you have any input regarding the built in HD 4000 graphics?
Will it work with my 30" monitor running at 2560x1600 or am I better of getting something like a HD5450? Or do you have any other graphics card that I should evaluate?

The reason I'm asking is that I wan't to have the computer as portable as possible as I will be moving this between two locations. If I do not need an external graphics card there are a lot of really small cases that could work.

I'm also trying to figure out if there's any big drawbacks with building it around a mITX-board?
The one's I've found so far seem to max out at 16GB RAM but for me that's not a deal breaker (for now). Am I missing something else?
I currently choosing between these two:
ASUS P8Z77I
http://www.asus.com/Mothe...5/P8Z77I_DELUXE/
ASROCK Z77E
http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z77E-ITX/

I really appriciate any help!
Please don't hesitate to ask if there's anything I forgot to mention.

Best Regards
Ludvig

I'm running on the on-chip graphics on a 2600k which is the previous version (3000) and it's perfectly adequate for use with Sonar.

Max resolution is as you state but check with the mobo manufacturer that highest resolution is supported on the board as it will possibly depend on what ports are provided on it being as you are looking at mITX boards, that may well be one of the drawbacks to look out for.

You'll probably need a displayport connector for that resolution.

I recently built a new system with an i7 3770 (not a 3770K) and I'm using the HD 4000 graphics.  I haven't had any graphics issues yet, either with Sonar or with other applications.  I get a rating of 6.5 on both graphics parameters in the Windows Experience Index.

    Thanks for your swift replies!

Guess I'll check it out with the mobo-manufacturer's as well. As far as I know I need Dual DVI, and that port is present on both the linked ones. But then again I also did some readup on PSU's for the really small cases (HTPC) and most of them seem to deliver too little power.

I also do find it a bit alarming that most DAW-makers tend to use a separate graphics card. But at what price would it be notably better?

The new plan will be something quite mobile, like this case: http://www.bitfenix.com/g...ducts/chassis/prodigy/

That way I'll have room for a graphics card if I should need it.

I'm still up for suggestions if anybody know a good small case with enough power though.

    Best Regards
    Ludvig
