Programming Maschine Mikro Keybinding MIDI Shift

I'm trying to set up my new Mikro in an optimum way for Sonar X1 studio. I figured out how to program the drum buttons right away. However setting up the Transport controls has been a little tricky.  I am using Keybindings. I've got MIDI enabled. MIDI shift is set to C0. However, when I press MIDI Shift the Drum Buttons stop working. So, I can't use MIDI Shift in Toggle mode. I have to use it in Gate mode and press it at the same time as the botton I'm trying to use. Is there a better way to set this up? ACT maybe. I have no idea how ACT works. Would that create Latency?
I'm also interested in being able to insert/delete a new layer or track to record onto. So, I can quickly layer a drum track using mostly the Mikros conrols. Should I use Insert/Delete rows in the Step Record controls?

Thanks for any Ideas.

ACT was the way to go.
