Is it possible to display 2 hours of audio in track view?

I have some live shows i'm trying to edit and would like to zoom out to see the entire show.   Is there a setting that is preventing this?     If I zoom out it stops at about 60 minutes of the ~2 hour show.

    I believe you can.

I recorded complete practice session longer than that and had them up. Been a couple years since Ive done it that way though

What if you split the clip and drag the remainder down to another track?

I split long audio files and create multiple projects. I learned right here  how easy it is to do in Sonar. Select all tracks-> split all the files-> delete the parts not being used. Open another project  import the same files->split->delete the opposite parts from the first project, etc. Make sure you have your original files stored ( backed up) somewhere other than the projects audio folder. I usually split by song. I hope this makes sense.

Was this with SONAR X1?    I heard it's possible on some pre X1 version but I can't find a way on X1.    I want the track view to show the entire show without splitting the tracks as this would double the tracks and add more steps + clutter to the process.

These are live shows that need to be edited, mixed and mastered farily quickly/cheaply for radio play.   I'm trying to streamline the process as much as possible as this will be a regular occurrence.

Thanks for the reply.  I will consider this option, but it sounds like it may be time consuming to reassemble the parts and I have to get the total air time down to ~ +/- 2 seconds in total length for radio purposes.  The show is also a lot of spoken parts, skits, etc..   It's working OK to scroll back and forth, but I just wish I could zoom out to see the entire show.

It's not bad. Save a project template from the first project and there won't be assembly required.

I think it was Sonar 8.5 then.

What I used to do was somewhat Rocky does-

DO A "SAVE AS" for a master back-up

Figure out how many tracks per song
Multiply that by how many songs
Right click and select "Insert Multiple Tracks"-fill out as needed

Now take your initial take in the first set of tracks and start splitting at the end of the song,
Select the remainder and drag them straight down to the next set of tracks,
Select and Slip edit out intermission between songs and repeat the step above until through all songs

Set up Busses as needed and insert FX in busses (Eliminates the repetition of track view FX inserts)

Go up on the Time Ruler, Right click and insert and Label each song (Makes jumping to each song a snap with on click)

Should make it fast for you-If I remember correctly the last one I did was about 4 hours, 21 songs and came out to actually be about 160 tracks with 8 busses. The steps above made it FAST and simple to deal with.

Zooming out is not the answer. I believe if you've zoomed out to the max  then it should work by shrinking the view horizontally.
Aren't there the +/- magnifying glasses in the low right corner of the view in X1?

I can't see anything preventing however long projects being shown, it's just that it gets too tightly packed to edit or even tell the widest lows from the transients..

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.

    +1
I just opened up one of my old projects in X1
Here the trick I found as suggested above

--Lower Right corner-Zoom OUT using the [- Mag Glass] as FAR as it will go.
(You can drag the scroll bar arrow but it will not go but to a certain point.  IF you use the scoll right ARROW by the Zoom out button, it will let you go as far as needed.)  I Stopped checking at like 5.5 hours

It depends on your screen resolution and the size of your monitors. Each person can have different results

Yes the little +/- allows any resolution, to me it seems infinite.

Because Sonar is not a Wave editing program I would recommend using a dedicated wave editor for what you are doing, it will save you time and frustration. Try Wave Lab, Sound Forge or even Audacity.
In Wave lab the entire track is shown in a smaller view at the top. The larger edit screen is easily re-sized to and zoom in and out of.
You do need a certain level of zoom for working efficiently. There is a bar in the track view that shows you where the edit screen is zoomed to.

and minimizing the track properties (leftmost section of track view)

Thanks for all the replies and ideas.   I'll have to get this project done then check into some of the suggested options to use for the following shows.

I'll add to the ideas here. For long shows with a huge list of songs and different artists I tend to create my busses and other things that will be "in common" between the various mixes (like the room sound, master buss FX, etc.) Then I go through and place a marker at the beginning of each song. Once I've done that I can use Clips->Split Clips at Markers and all my splits are done for me. This saves me time since the markers are also there now, and that enables me to quickly move from one song to the next.

At that point if there are multiple artists  I will save a new version of the file for each artist and remove all content not relating to their songs. This just makes it more manageable. Part of the reason I do this is that I use UAD plugins extensively and have limited UAD power (only 2 cores of UAD.)

Regardless of whether you like to create new files I find the feature for splitting at each marker to be VERY handy.

    Peace,

    Tunes
