X2 installation ?
Im pretty antsy waiting for X2 to be released, So Im pondering when I get X2 , Do I leave X1 and install x2 and leave it be , or do I install X2 then erase X1, or perhaps X2 updates over X1. Im thinking about these situations just because my C : drive is an SSD n unfortunately its only 60 GB,And I have only about 9 gigs left of space. What to do? Then I'm thinking when I install X2, what should I do with my content , right now my content is directed to another drive , So when I install the new content do i overwrite the old or install it side by side. Perhaps Im over thinking and I just want my X2 :)

X2 does not install over X1. There is no reason why you need to erase X1. Keep them both. I had 3 or 4 different sonar programs on PC. It doesn't hurt it. CJ

Do you remember how much just the install files were?

Do you remember how much just the install files were? I dont know what your trying to ask. I would not worry about how much or how little any files are. Install X2 all the way or Install just what you need as far as extra files and stuff. Dont worry about hard drive space as these days hard drives are bigger and cheaper than ever. The space they take up is nothing ion the grand scheme of things. Cj

Not including the Cakewalk Content or the new Rapture, X2 will take up about 150-200MB. This estimate is based on the sum of c:\Program Files\Cakewalk\SONAR X1 Producer + c:\ProgramData\SONAR X1 Producer + {User}\AppData\Roaming\Cakewalk\SONAR X1 Producer

I have an SSD for my programs that I wish to leave as much room as possible on. X1 took up quite a bit of room. I'm thinking I should remove X1 completely, since it will just sit there & do nothing, taking up much needed real estate.

If you are in the middle of projects and can't afford any down-time then leave X1 on for now and install X2. Once you are happy X2 is working properly with your projects then go ahead and delete X1.

A lot of the install wil be the same files placed in the same folders. I would not remove SX1 unless the disk is 90+% full, and I planned on installing some other big programs. Space savers: make the C: disk pagefile 200 meg, and enabling such on a seconding disk. disable hibernate: cmd prompt, powercfg /h off reduce system restore disk use reduce IE disk use ...

I don't recommend putting the content on another drive. I tried that initially and have problems so I have it in the default location. If you don't want problems with Sonar, install it in the default locations. Also, NEVER uninstall the previous version before installing the new version because the new version will find the old version and copy over your settings.

...There is no reason why you need to erase X1. Keep them both...Actually there may be. My understanding is that SSD's perform better when there's less stuff on them, and that 70% capacity is the suggested maximum. ...I had 3 or 4 different sonar programs on PC. It doesn't hurt it...On a hard standard hard drive that would be fine, but I added a 128Gig SSD after I bought my 64Gig SSD because with just Sonar X1d, & Studio One Version 1, & Dim Pro & Rapture & my other 3rd-party plugins, I was already over where I wanted to be & filled it up too much, so now I use the 128G now. I will be removing X1d - I'm just not quite sure at what point.

The Sonarpdr.exe can be measured in Megabytes - typically less than 20, so you should have AMPLE capacity on your SSD to host as many versions of Sonar as you want. My experience is slightly different to daveny5's in that I always install my content files to another drive, and so far this hasn't caused me a single problem. As ever of course, YMMV.

What I'm wondering is do I do a custom install or just let it rip. It would be nice if they let us know if the soft synths included are the same ones, or updated. Is there any additional content or updates to existing things like Session Drummer etc.

Is there any additional content or updates to existing things like Session Drummer etc. I'd install X2 side-by-side with X1. Use X2 and make sure it's solid and that you're up-to-speed with the changes. Once you're comfortable with X2 (weeks or months later), then I'd uninstall X1. When installing X2 (or any version), I'd always choose a custom install. This allows you to choose plugins/content to be installed...
