Turning one channel into two

I suspect this is really basic but I'm really green with this program so I need help.  I saved a cassette recording to my computer using Sonar X1 Producer.  The recording has only one channel and I'd like to get the sound, mono though it is, coming out of both the left and the right channels.  I suspect it's a simple thing to accomplish but I'm obviously missing it.  Any help would sure be appreciated.

If it is recorded on a track in X1 then simply set the pan control of that track to the center.

But if you recorded it to a stereo track, you also recorded the tape noise from the "dead" channel along with the audio from the "live" channel. When you play back (in Sonar) what you recorded, do you here it only from the Left or Right channel?

If Im understanding,

Just copy and paste the recording to another track so you have 2 total

Pan 1 left and one right

FIRST-Try selecting the CLIP, right click and "convert to MONO"

That's exactly what I did and yes I hear it only from the Left channel in this case.
