Beagle Jumps Off Bridge!

Beagle survives 70-foot fall from NJ bridge

Associated Press
BURLINGTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) — A beagle named Brandi survived a 70-foot fall from a New Jersey bridge.
The dog got away from its owner during a walk along the Burlington Riverfront Promenade Friday night.
Bridge officer Rob Bittner saw Brandi walking up the Burlington-Bristol Bridge toward Pennsylvania.
Bittner tells The Courier-Post of Cherry Hill (http://on.cpsj.com/Ps9e2y ) he turned on his emergency lights to slow traffic and followed the dog. Bittner says Brandi was doing fine until she got to the top of the span and her paws felt a steel grate.
The officer says Brandi jumped into the Delaware River as motorists tried to grab her.
The beagle's owner recovered her and took her to a veterinarian. Brandi was bruised around the abdomen, but didn't have any broken bones.

Small world.... I lived for 10 years in Burlington NJ... just a short distance to that bridge.

I remember it as a very narrow (2 lane) bridge and the toll was a nickle (back in the early 60's)

People would jump from that bridge every once in a while.... most did not survive. The pup did good.

Sure.  The beagle gets all the press.

"A beagle jumps off a bridge!"  "The beagle's okay!"  "Beagles are tough!"

There's no mention there at all about the guy who jumped at the same time and belly flopped.  Granted the slice of becan had fallen from his sandwich and the dog was an opportunist.

I got my becan back, but the reporters were already gone.
