X2: Mackie MCU Pro Users

Any improvements on the driver compatibility?

OK, it's officially worse.  I had my 8 programmable function buttons set up to turn on Snap and change various snap settings and that is broken now even when the smart grid is disabled.

I haven't noticed any difference but my 'F' buttons are assigned differently to yours Dave.

Have you tried reassigning them back to the settings and reloading the ini? You can do that by pressing M4+F1 or a Sonar exit and restart of course.

I'm dissapointed that the MCU seems to be going backwards in terms of usability. I'm currently using an ACT surface for the MCU shortfalls but it'd be nice to have it all back in one place again.

Dave, a single word fully answers your question. It begins with n and ends in o. I think it's still using the same driver from 2006 with no ACT support. Why oh why can't they recommission the same programmer to do an update?

Having said all that, a lot of thought and effort has clearly gone into other areas and the results are well worth upgrading for in my view.

I'm wondering if maybe we can approach the author of the driver?  I'm certainly willing to pay extra if that is what it takes to get results..

FWIW the keyboard shortcut for Snap On/ Off has changed from f12 in X1 to N in X2. Perhaps that's what messed up your custom mapping on the MCU? SP

No improvements for MCU, but nothing worse/broken (which is a plus in my book)

It's intermittent with that command which was accessed through a drop down window in the ACT interface.  The Snap to 1/8, 1/4, 1/2 from the same ACT interface is what is broken in all cases.  I suspect the Smart Grid feature broke it.  I've tried fixing it by re-associating the button with the command.  The Snap to/Snap by command works as intended.

Hopefully, you have someone on the beta team that can help with the testing.  If not, I will lend any help I can.

I have discovered that if I switch off the Smart Grid and then select "Ticks" as my Snap selection, my Mackie custom function key set up works.  I don't see the grid labels as notes but I see them in Ticks.  480 ticks = 1/8 note, 960 = 1/4 note.  I can live with this but it would be nice if it was fixed.

I believe that in time the Smart Grid will negate my need for the custom function key set up on the Mackie but working with it will tell for sure.

Doesn't look like it.  I see no added functionality.  In fact, I had a little bit of trouble initially setting up my MCU and two extenders.  Had some confusing moments when the I/O settings didn't seem to want to stick.  I finally got it sorted.

Thanks ModBod for the answer.  Cannot understand why they didn't update this dll. Nothing but 3rd party plugins I can see at least 98%.

Yeah, a competing product made a substantial update to MCU support on a free point release just a month ago.

pls don't hesitate to name it - reduces search time when looking for alternatives ...

i remember seeing a thread just yesterday (i searched again, but can't find it, there are too many new ones at the moment) where a cake representative said that there was no work done in X3 to either MCU nor VS700, but they did not remove anything on purpose and hence they believe everything should work as before ...

    yeah right

strange post IMO but it shows that control surfaces are not of any interest to cakewalk. hence, i doubt they'll work the same as in x2a (something will have been broken somewhere but unless someone tests, we'll never know) ...

vs700 users are pretty disappointed for now being totally on their own with no support for an expensive system. i've actually started a thread polling interesting for open source extension of VS700 / MCU. i doubt that there will be many replies. there are just too few of us over there in the vs700 forum.

anyway, MCU is in the same boat. feel free to join (http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/2898815)
