X1 ProChannel Presets

Im really wanting to find some things out on ProChannel in general but with all the newness going on upstairs Im afraid it will get lost in cyberspace  


Are you using the ProChannel with Presets?


I decided to make life easier for the way I mix by using ProChannel Presets for the first time. (Uh Oh)
I started with a project I already have all the tracks for/recorded


Heres the situation at this point
In Track View I expanded the PC's and assigned/loaded presets for AC Guitars & Vocals (On the Tracks) just to feel things out.
On the busses I left all FX and PC blank except for the bass which I loaded the preset for Fingered Bass

When I check the settings (lets say AC guitars, 8 tracks, same presets on all) the EQ might setup for the preset on one but not the other. Sometimes the Compressor, EQ, or Tube might be on or might not. Sometimes the On/Off for the entire PC might be on or off.

When I play and SOLO the bass buss, I see the compressors intermittently working on the guitar tracks.

Im not sure if its PC or something I could have done to create this just loading presets. There was no copy/pasting, all loaded individually on each track or buss.

Any ideas or is it best to not use ProChannel in a Preset kind of method of mixing?

ADDED  I did however create a Preset for Acoustic Guitar, Saved it as ACG1, and when loaded onto other tracks, all settings go as they should.

Was just thinking of ya and how the Mrs was doing with her migraines.

As far as the presets, I was hoping to get to a ballpark estimate kinda-setting as a starting point then adjust out as necessary from there. 

Its like I am not doing something right, my software didnt do correctly, or ???
I used guitar tracks as an example loading nothing but the same AC Guitar Preset that came with X1. Seems that even though I have 6 identical tracks and setups loaded, there are different things happening from the get-go without having done anything other than loading the tracks in preparation.

As 'Beagle' says.... they are a good STARTING point! 

Adjust to your liking from there! 

They may not work for every song, instrument, or VOX; but maybe just the place to start.

I am sure that these presets may not be for everyone... but that's the nice part! use them as you need them.

I would like to use them BUT


Lets say you have a baseline Preset you like to use for a particular type of instrument and plan on repeating the recording of that and setting up the track multiple times on different recordings sessions. Each project you might want to insert that preset a few time or more on different tracks or busses.


NOW each time you do an insert you might get the compressor or EQ on OR it might not be on. The EQ settings you saved sometimes load and sometimes they dont. Its just eratic from what is Saved as a Preset ready to load on PC-compared to what actually loads when you select it.


I like the idea of the presets and dont believe I have a problem using PC setting it up everytime I use it manually, the same Preset loading differently and unreliably is kind of annoying. I like the idea of Saving something, Loadin it back up somewhere and knowing it is what I have set up already and not something else completely.

If you look in the upper portion of PC, you can see a bar with a File Folder, Save Icon, 

Hover over it and I believe they pop up. When you select it, it will take you in to presets.

Ill have to check but I believe thats it

I get a PopUp window with PreLoaded Presets, then I select what might be close to a starting point for me, make changes and Save As so its there for later use.






My Problem is is all the stuff Im experiencing listed above with saving and reloading one

I didnt download any that I remember. Mine might have been part of 8, 8.5, or ???  I only run Cake so no other plugs are installed.

If you need to down load some Cake has a page with some already made up but I cant seem to find it-I get flooded by X2 info LOL

Been out for awhile as youve seen.  Not sure if any changes have happened in/with updates.  Ill put that on the honeydo list today.


Glad to hear shes found a way to get some sort of relief even though we know its not a fix.  


My wifes migraines have now put her off work totally, the doctors had pulled driving privileges cause she blacks out.  She is scheduled to go to the University of Michigan in November to see what they can come up with.  In the mean time I have to get her to sit down long enough to start on her SSDI paperwork whether it be us or an attorney doing it.
Hopefully UofM will find her some relief.

I noticed today that i have had to hoover the mouse arrow over the spot that digi2unes indicated, then the folder icon appears and can be clicked. Otherwise, i never knew it was there. Hid from me all along. The folder has about 20 or 25 presets in it. Kewl. Thanks again guys.

I just finished a project and I tried using the presets, but I don't like to compress too much in individual busses except on bass drum, snare, acoustic guitar, and bass guitar. Everything on the presets uses a compression. I found a couple of the acoustic guitar presets kind of nice to use on the two different tracks I recorded with a large condenser and a small condenser. I personally didn't like them - found them a little too harsh for my needs.

 Hey guys can't you also save an entire track configuration into a track preset that includes the PC. I tried this last night on a drum track I liked and it saved everything. The track was frozen though so in order to save the track preset to be tweaked I had to unfreeze it from another project and then save it as a track preset.

 Track presets seem to include everything in a track so if you have things in the VST folder they will be saved too.

 I have used the PC presets too. You can save your own as presets,and share them if you want.

 I know a lot of folks roll their own and shy away from presets. I can honestly say that the presets usually put me closer to my goal than not. In addition they enabled me to see how many plug-ins I have that I probably didn't need since getting the PC.
