X2 Experience thus far

Well its been about an hour with X2 Producer and so far I'm impressed.

Yes I bit the bullet and decided to do the installation and not wait for others.

The download went flawlessly with IE 9.

Installation went the same.

My External editor setup has been carried over from X1 (x64)

Every window seems to open up smoothly, projects and plugins load effortlessly. transport moves smoothly and opening windows and simultaneously working in different areas doesn't cause any glitches or gaps that I can hear or see.

BTW to all who gave me heaps when X1 was giving me heaps - this is the same laptop that was being blamed for all my woes when SONAR X1 (Until X1C came out ) absolutely refused to run with any kind of usable stability.

Props to the Cakewalk dev team as this is a beauty of a release thus far. I'm actually looking forward to exploring all the new features and rediscovering old ones in what is clearly a very smooth revision of SONAR X.

I'll update as I find more to report.

Agree on all except the download of Dim pro 1.5 has not gone well...but frankly its a none issue since I was already at 1.5 and also ordered to box, so I am not going to try again.

Program starts faster...loading files seems smoother...

Shortcut changes make sense now, I like them, if you had a particular workflow it may need adjusting, but it will be easier than you think.

I am out of town so this got loaded on my toshiba laptop and I can definitely see a performance difference...it is a much better engine and appears to distribute to multiple cores very nicely...

Breverb loaded a couple of time gave me the feedback screech of death...used it from a different location and re arranged its place on a track and it worked fine...

Definitely a bus go to verb...will be replacing my UAD 140...plugin...

Switching screen sets while playing was a decent experience...this laptop is an intel dualcore with 4 gigs of ram and everything played well together...

Don't have a decent set of speakers/headphones here but it does seem to sound better to me, same file from my beast machine pinned onto a mobile rig thru a UA4-FX instead of Lynx Aurora...but that might be "buyers glaze"...

I dunno the whole program feels tighter, more streamlined, faster, smoother...even with latency turned down...no hiccups other than the breverb screech thing...

SO yeah well worth the entrance price as far as I'm concerned...I really like the console emulation feature that will be a go to for sure...more natural way to mix stuff for me.

I'm using SOnar Platinium on a 6 core Lynx Audio machine and a ton of vintage pre-amps/eq's/comps I build for fun and sometimes money, REDD.47/API/Neve I also use the UAD stuff, and also use a Macbook Logic 9 through Apogee...

Even the MP3 encoder has carried forward from X1. that's new. Used to have to rerun the MP3 config utility for each new version.

another Plus for this X2 release.

    Still running smooth as silk

I haven't really had a play with it. I've loaded it and had a look at it with a bit of audio running through it but at this stage I'm just trying to make SONAR fall over which I haven't been able to do thankfully.

the next few days are just going to be finding all the new stuff and seeing what works differently. Once I get into a project I think I'll get into it more.

I'm not too sure how I might use it as I have iZotope RX 2 adv so it might be covered - but early days on all the new stuff.

All good so far which is so far away from where I was at in Dec 2010

All great here too other than one crash I just experienced with multiple instances of channel and bus sims. Got a white screen and repeating audio and Sonar just shut down. I've had it up working on a few different projects since I got it though and it's been flawless other than just now. Reloaded the project, took the same steps trying to crash it and it's fine. It very well could be my net box though as I'm going to give Sonar a month or so before I move it to the recording box. But so far, I'm pretty impressed and haven't found any show-stoppers. Smart tool took a little getting used to though, but I think I'm starting to like it.

P.S. I tried that Rmix, backwoods...it's pretty cool actually. I can definitely see me using it for certain things. It's a nice tool to have that's for sure.

Well I had a pleasant experience so far . The download took alittle while, but the installation was a breeze .. Props to the bakers..

My first take is I love the auto zoom feature along with the smart grid .
I like the full screen mode. F11.. I like that I can stretch the track view onto my other monitor .
Breverb sounds beautiful , clean and pristine .
Rmix is a great addition I can see myself using that more than I thought I would..
X2 seems like it really has a nice fit and finish to it.. It's a smooth operator ..
Oh and I am able to reset my FireWire devices simply by powering on and off.. USB worked like this in x1. FireWire I had to restart sonar to get it to recognize .

    Pretty happy camper here!

All good here, and I'm nicely surprised,by even the included TH2 Sonar, and the Breverb, but especially the Pro Channel FX Chains deal, really liking that.

Console emulation is a little underwhelming, which I'm guessing as it should be[?],as I was kind of underwhelmed by Waves NLS as well, and I keep thinking as its,you know "emulating a console" it should be "on top",but the meters hardly move it seems, even when gain staging, per Zo's Gain staging vids[which are helpful].

No crashes or weirdness,in fact the exact opposite, and with a project that has a ton of Amp sim tracks/Waves Comps, etc etc,I swear the CPU meter is showing almost HALF as tall via the yellow lines, and they're WAY more EVEN,so that is very noticeable, and its not just visual as the same project/plugs,was glitching,as the meter was so high, and now its clean,so I'm pretty sure the CPU use is much better optimized.

    Anyone else experience this?

This is all 64bit on my dell xps laptop so far,but will test more with 32bit and x64 with desktop tommorrow.

Unfortunately had a lot of crashes since istalled X2 producer. Strange X1 had no problems with crashes at all. Happens mostly when changing from track to pro channel at the master bus trying to change sound source from one sound card to another after changing from wdm to asio drivers.

Yes, same here. First time using X2 since the upgrade from X1 Producer Expanded Crashed running an 8 bar loop with four tracks. One instance of Absynth 5 and one of Dim Pro 1.5 plus two tracks of audio drum loops. Nothing strenuous.

Chrisland: I do those changes like mad and haven't seen this happen. Can you give me a recipe as to how you are doing it exactly and I'll try to see if I can make it happen on this end? I can't use WDM on my end at all. For some reason, I can't even get sound out of any version of Sonar since I made the switch to Win 7. But I have no problems with ASIO and switch cards/outputs up all the time without a problem.

Audiosynth: you just reminded me....I had "loop" going on when X2 crashed on me last night. When I tried to make it crash again, I had forgotten that was enabled. I wonder if there is something weird going on with loop? I never use it in any Sonar version, but last night I was working on a small section of a guitar track and wanted it to keep looping so I could experiment with the console emulation. That's when it crashed on me. I'm going to try it now that you reminded me I was using loop mode.
