Quack: Ducks and Ducking

1. I have a flute sound (loop) which I would like to appear to quack like a duck. Any ideas as to how to achieve this? 2. I saw a post (not sure if it was a recent post or an older one) which I meant to bookmark, but apparently did not. The original poster asked for an explanation of busses...their purpose, etc. Among the replies was an explanation of ducking...how to group tracks on a bus, apply a compressor, and have one track automatically lower in volume and another one rise in volume. Does anyone know the post in question, and can you supply a link? Thanks.

If I had a nickle for every time someone asked me for advice on making a flute quack like a duck....  haha.  First, you'll need to distort it with maybe the saturation module on the ProChannel.  Then automate a lowpass or band pass filter's frequency, and the track level - that's where I'd start.

Ducking is achieved by sidechaining.  Check out this blog post: http://blog.cakewalk.com/sidechaining-with-sonars-prochannel/

Hi Bill: I tried your suggestions, but finally ended up just putting a wah-wah on the flute track. Here's the result: http://soundcloud.com/wilton-vought/dubstep-duck I think it came out just ducky.

That was almost as lame as I thought it would be.  Should be a big hit.

that "flute" needs to go down 2-3 octaves.. the good thing about dubstep is that its sub-audible 25% of the time!..lol

Daveny5: I'm somewhat disappointed. I was hoping the song would be even LAMER than you thought it would be. I've never done dubstep before, but that entire genre sounds to me like ducks quacking, hence the song. Mystic38: I was going for a quacking sound (while still keeping a sense of melody), not a flute sound, and I think I got pretty close. I called it "flute" because to me that's what the original loop sounded closest to. Thanks for listening.

Well, I'm an old Dr. Demento fan so I have a sweet spot for demented music.

Once I found a broken chair and a rope, it was much better! :)

Seriously, this is humorous, but I think the duck sound should have more daffy sounding duck sounds...

    Keep having fun with it.

I'm just thankful I have all this wonderful technology so I can use it to make duck songs.
