Take Lanes are a winner so far.
Exclusive Mute via CTRL+ Drag is working well for me and equals what I liked about the Reaper comping workflow. Everything about Take Lanes appears neater and more thought out. The only thing I can't figure out is there is a box for notes on each Take Lane and it puts black lettering on a gray background. I'd like to change the lettering to white but I can't find it in the color preferences. If someone happens on a solution, I'd appreciate it if you would share it.

What was sweet was it took my prior version files that had multiple takes and put them into lanes. I had to do nothing. If you save and go back though it warns that there might be issues but I didn't try it. If you are talking about the text box for the track text (background\foreground) hit "P" for preferences, scroll down to Colors, and if you select ALL COLORS or Audio Tracks\Midi Tracks\Synth Tracks and scroll down to where you see the track view instrument\midi\synthy\bus foreground and background colors and set them to what you want. I Found I had to exit and reload to take affect.

I found take lanes for midi get all jumbled up after just a little editing. Excess lanes, overlapping clips, etc. I wish there were a "rebuild" command for lanes.

I don't like the spaces between clips in the lanes--where the clip name goes. I do a lot of takes, and those clip name-lanes (what are they called?) take up a lot of real estate. Is there a way to get rid of them? I can kinda see the reasoning behind those name-lanes: you can edit the beginning of a clip without the clip name getting in the way, but I'd like to toggle them on and off. Otherwise, I like everthing else about the lanes. The mute button and other functions for each lane is vastly better than the tiny mute for track layers in X1.

Don't you want to just right-click lasso that whole UI and turn up the contrast? I sure do.

Hey Dave. I think everyone agrees that the lanes' note text should be a lighter shade or customizable. This was actually on our list of final tweaks before release. But it must have gotten lost in the mix... procrastinated infinitely because it was so small and simple:/. Your comment has been noted and we'll try to improve it in the future.

Is there a way to get rid of them? Check "Maximise Waveform Height" in the Track View-->View--->Display Menu. That removes the clip headers and the clips behave in a more X1 like fashion. HTH

I apologize if it's been covered, but is there a good video of comping takes in lanes rather than in layers in X2? Perhaps with multi-miced instruments like drums?

I got quite excited at take lanes, only to get a litte deflated with the inability to edit a single midi take lane..but checkout here..you can isolate a single take lane in the prv ..:) http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=2669236

fooman I apologize if it's been covered, but is there a good video of comping takes in lanes rather than in layers in X2? Perhaps with multi-miced instruments like drums? I have some X1 comping videos on my youtube page. Although using layers rather than the new take lanes, the method is identical. It isn't on multi mic'd instruments but the only difference would be creating clip groups prior to the comp or using those created at recording time. There's also a comping section in my SWA video (link in sig) that does use the take lanes, again single instrument but uses the mute tool similar to the X1 YouTube vid plus another method of splitting clips and using the fade clips command. That works better on more continuous material such as guitars whereas the mute tool method works better on material with distinct breaks such as vocal phrases. HTH

OK, is this normal behaviour for the new take lanes? I have a basic midi drum pattern on one track lane (T1) and i want to add cymbal crashes on another lane (T2). I arm record on T2 but when i hit record on the console, the groove on T1 mutes. The solo and mute buttons are both unchecked on T1. Is this right? I would have thought the groove on T1 would still be audible. Any thoughts?

I would have a look at your record options. "Mute previous takes" is probably checked. Right click on the record button in the transport module or call up preferences direct from the edit menu.
