corrupt files

 when installing  corrupt file warning came up,  choose to cancel, and start again..
  this time sailed through.....just read post  from ryan munnis cakewalk,,about 
  updated x2 downloads and  downloading part 1 again... bugger... it took me 2 days the first time
     whats a checksum ?   cheers phill

    Wikipedia says: A checksum or hash sum is a fixed-size datum computed from an arbitrary block of digital data for the purpose of detecting accidental errors that may have been introduced during its transmission or storage. The integrity of the data can be checked at any later time by recomputing the checksum and comparing it with the stored one. If the checksums match, the data was almost certainly not altered. The procedure that yields the checksum from the data is called a checksum function or checksum algorithm. A good checksum algorithm will yield a different result with high probability when the data is accidentally corrupted; if the checksums match, the data is very likely to be free of accidental errors.

    Good question, what kind of protection against corrupt downloads does the installer have?  Is it a simple checksum or a CRC or something better?  I ask because I'm seeing some behavior with V-Vocal that others aren't seeing so I'm wondering if my download was somehow corrupted.

    Disable VIRUS program during Installation. That helped me.
    The files isn't corrupt, you can get that error because the virus program that is active interfere with the installations...
     
     
    *NOTE 
    If you use IExplorer and download you need to rename the files ----> add ".exe" in the ending.

    Another reason to use a download manager. Most (but not all) of them will automatically detect and reload a damaged file/packet. Most do use a simple checksum rather than a CRC, but that's really quite adequate (a CRC allows for on-the-fly error-correcting and is less prone to the very rare occurrence when the checksum passes but the data is corrupt) . They'll also speed up download times, and let you schedule and sequence downloads for later execution.

    Me, I'm an old-fashioned guy and I always order products on hard media if that's an option. It's worth the 20 bucks to have a reliable backup and guaranteed file integrity.


    All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.
