Bub and mgh: I hope you guys feel better soon. Pneumonia is one of the worst things EVER! There's a punishment for bad people....give them a shot so they have that for a few weeks and see if they still go bad after. I had it so bad I was in the hospital...so I know what you're going through. Hang in there guys...wishing you both all the best.

@Danny: Thanks. I'm lucky I didn't end up in the hospital. When it gets to that point it's not good. :( @mgh: Glad to hear you're headed home. I went back to doc today. They took x-rays and extended my antibiotics and added steroids. Said it sounded worse than it was judging by x-rays and I should be good in a couple weeks. I got lucky going to doc early enough.

Yeah you don't want to go to the hospital....it totally sucks...but they do help you get better faster so try to look at the positive. I'm just glad to see you posting every day because it means you're still alive and not totally down and out with this. I know how bad it sucks just to breathe without coughing up a lung. It was even worse for me being a smoker....man, I still cringe when I think back on some of those things that came out of my body at that time. Hang in there man...I'm keeping you guys in my prayers that this doesn't get worse and you start feeling better soon. :)

danny, i am feeling better though if i try and do anything i am knackered in two minutes! from a professional point of view i am interested though as i am a respiratory nurse specialist, both from a trying-to-find-out-what-organism POV and a being-on-the-other-side-as-a-patient perspective.
i don't know whether knowing more about what may happen (including all those rare and dangerous potential complications) is better than not having an insight?
anyway, hopefully on the road to recovery, might even have a few hours for song writing!

That's great you're at least feeling better. I was hoping to hear from you also. It's good you guys give us updates on your status. I sincerely hope you both improve and beat this thing asap.

On the knowledge thing....sometimes knowing less is better I would say. Then again, due to your profession, you probably want to know as much as you can as it will only help you deal with others that go through this. It's a catch 22...sort of like waking up with some sort of issue gone wrong with your body so you go on web md or some place to check out the possibilities. You wind up scared to death over something that may not be. In your case, it's even more intense because you know all the truths behind the illness.

Though knowing about those complications may scare you, knowing about them may help prevent something worse because YOU know the signs to look for where someone else may ignore them due to simply not knowing. So yeah...I'd say both a blessing and a curse. Try to stay positive though and embrace the blessing part as being well informed due to your career, knowing/seeing the signs, helping yourself and others....pray the curse part just never happens and you don't let the knowledge part rule your mind.

Hang in there guys....wishing you both the best.

Both of you, please get well, and please don't try to do too much.  It will likely be awhile before you are able to get back to some semblance of normal.  I've had it myself - fortunately a mild case, but the scary thing is once you've had it you are at an increased risk for it again.

So, both of you, take care!!!!
