[SOLVED] Has anyone dabbled with R-MIX yet? (mine does not work)

I'm still going through all the various plug-ins to make sure they work okay in X2.

I thought I'd give R-MIX a go so I inserted an instance in the FX bin of my master channel.

I've seen a few videos of R-MIX working on youtube, and I've seen Brandon and Seth using it at the last webinar and I thought you would be able to see a lot of nice colours dancing around on the R-MIX screen in the middle of the plug-in window.

When I first insert the plug-in into the FX bin, the R-MIX interface opens and I am presented with a number of controls either side of a white screen. When I press play nothing happens. No pretty dancing colours, just that white screen.

I've checked to make sure that it isn't bypassed and that it is actually turned on.

I've also tried inserting it into the FX bin of an individual track and the same thing happens.

I've saved it in my current test project, closed the project and X2 down, and then re-opened it, but that didn't help.

Should I be using a particular preset? I've tried a couple anyway and still all I get is the white screen.

I don't recall seeing any errors while installing X2.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Hmmm... I thought I'd see if R-MIX would work in X1. I opened an existing project that had not yet been opened in X2. When I tried to insert the R-MIX plug-in into the FX bin a message popped up telling me that this particular plug-in was only licensed to run in X2.

It then inserted it into the FX bin anyway and the interface even opened. The screen in the middle was black, not white like it is in X2. I started the song and I got all those nice pretty colours dancing across the screen. I tried one of the presets and I was able to use the level inside and level outside controls to effect parts of the song. I was able to locate, pretty much, a piano part and isolate it from the mix, so I think that demonstrates that R-MIX is working fine in X1.

I then went back into X2 to see if R-MIX would now, but unfortunately, it doesn't, and all I see is a white screen in the interface window.

Now that I've seen it working in X1 I am a little bit disappointed. I thought it wouldn't matter and that I probably wouldn't have used it anyway, but the more I think about it I think I need to get this fixed.

I'll have to log a call with Cakewalk...

I played with it and it did what it is supposed to do. I can't think of a reason why it wont work in your X2.

Give more information. Where did you insert it? Was it a track or a buss? Were there other FX in the FX bin?

Not sure what to suggest, it works here. I wonder if it's an install issue. Have you tried rescanning plugins with rescan existing plugs checked?

Thanks John, so it is working for someone then.

I wonder why it works in X1, when it isn't supposed to, but does not work in X2.

Just my luck, and I can't say I blame em, but it looks like all the Bakers have gone out for a well earned pint.

And on that note, I think I'll bugger off to bed meself... up early in the morning, and I like to relax with a good book before lights out.

I'll call back in here tomorrow.

    cheers

One tip I read about was running X2 in admin mode... even tho I have a couple of projects that have crashed, most seem to work well and the plugs seem to work... but haven't gone thru all of them yet.  TH R-Mix is awesome... took a synth track and automated a rectangle sliding from top to bottom and back... nice effect.

    Hi Karl,

No, I've not tried rescanning my plugs. I'll do that first and report back.

This may be a silly question but are you sure you aren't confusing X2 and X1?
Do you have both versions open at the same time? If you don't get the license error then it should load and operate fine in X2.

    Works for me....

However you do get the white screen of R-Mix on a frozen synth, its not frozen no?

Thanks for chipping in Noel. And Brando :)

    Erm... it works.

But, not in my original X2 Test project.

When I first installed X2 I created my test project and I used that to make sure that all of my soft synths and effects plug-ins functioned okay. There are now over twenty soft synth instances including most of the bundled Sonar synths plus Absynth, Battery, Tassman, UltraAnalog, Chromaphone, BFD Eco and so on.

I've also been trying out my upgraded Breverb plug-in. And not forgetting TH2 vs Guitar Rig 5.

I've still not tested everything yet, but I just thought I'd give R-MIX a go in this test project, and this is when I found it wasn't working.

I then tried it in X1 and found that it did work, despite the message that it was only licensed for X2.

What I then tried was opening my X2 Test project in X1. I got the usual message telling me that it might not sound the same. When I opened the R-MIX interface it didn't work.

I then went back into X2 and created a brand new project called R-MIX Test. I inserted just one instance of Chromaphone and placed some quarter notes for a couple of bars and then set some loop points so that I now have a constant sound source.

I then placed R-MIX into the FX bin of the Master bus. The interface opened and it worked.

So, I suppose that is good news, although I am still a little concerned that it appears to be broken in my original test project. If it has broken once it make break again.

When I have time I will copy my test project and then delete things one at a time to see if that "fixes" R-MIX.

In the meantime, hang fire, because I don't expect anyone to be able to emulate this on their system simply because of all the bits and pieces that are in my current test project. I'll carry on testing and see how it goes.

And to be honest, until I can think of an expressive and creative way of using R-MIX I may or may not miss it.

    thanks again

    Hi markyzno,

No, nothing frozen, and it's in the FX bin of the Master bus which everything is routed to, eventually. And there is a signal there that I can hear and that drives the meters.

    But thanks anyway :)

I should have gone to bed, but I dabbled some more.

I tried again to insert R-MIX but into a track FX bin this time. Get the white screen. I deleted R-MIX.

I also deleted R-MIX from the Master bus FX Bin, inserted another new instance and when the interface opened the screen was black. Started playback and it works!

I did collapse my ProChannels but I don't think it could have been because of that. I tried opening up all my ProChannel strips again but R-MIX still worked.

This is just going to have to go down as "one of those things" cos I just can't think for the life of me why all of the above happened.

Perhaps it was the re-scanning. And, now that I think about it, I didn't delete the original R-MIX instance and re-insert it, so it could have been that. What makes me think it wasn't though is because I've been scanning my VST folders quite a few times today and so I'm sure it can't be because of that.

I shall note this as [SOLVED] for now.

    Thanks for all the input.

    cheers

I did have to reinstall the Studio Instruments for X2 because in a project I loaded the bass wouldn't work. After the reinstall it did work. In the loaded project I could not open the SI Bass interface even though it was in the synth rack. The reinstall fixed that.

I think the install is not as bullet proof as it should be. Its going to take a little time to figure out what is working and what is not. This applies to all aspects of X2.

I am very pleased with it but it does have some issues. My advice is test it thoroughly before doing anything critical.

Absolutely John, which is what I'm doing now. I've checked that nearly all of my soft synths work and some of my purchased plug-ins like Guitar Rig. I've yet to try any of the Sonitus plugs and, even though I might never use them again, now that a ot of the stuff can be done by PC and other plugs, I'm reluctant to say goodbye to them just yet, after using them for so long.

I'm having the same issues.  Posted my own thread earlier today because I hadn't found these via search.  It does appear that the search function on the forum is broken.

I'll try the re-scan of VST's today and if that doesn't work, I'll try reinstalling the plug in and report back.

    thanks.

I tried the reset and rescan of VST folders with no luck.  Upped the midi buffer to 500ms.  I noticed that I no longer have drop out.  But the white screen is still there.

I deleted and reinstalled R-Mix (first removed old .dll's) but the white screen is still there.  So the GUI is useless when I have the white screen.  I used the automation function to get the events I was looking for.

So, I'm still looking for a solution for this although at least the plug in does give me the effect that I'm looking for.
