X2 Console plug-ins

X2 Console plug-ins:

Who’s using them and how?

What does the tolerance switch on the buss version do?

Are you using these both on tracks and busses?

I am interested in hearing about your experiences and thoughts.

Check out the X2 webcast from Brandon and Seth (noted at the top of the forum), or looking it up on YouTube. IN that webcast they give a good explanation of what it does and where to use it, as well as demonstrating the sound difference by using it.

Two internal 2TB SSDs laptop stuffed with Larry's deals and awesome tools. Studio One is the cat's meow as a DAW now that I've migrated off of Sonar. Using BandLab Cakewalk just to grab old files when migrating songs.

It's a funny thing, but I put an instance on the master bus of a track I'm in the process of mixing, and to be honest I didn't hear the difference from all 3 types with the drive turned up full. Maybe a slight difference with the A-Type but I'm not sure I wasn't deceiving myself. Perhaps it's because the track has a lot of tube saturation on it?

However, I just tried it on a channel, using as an experiment a completely dry Dimension Pro string ensemble. Boy, what a difference, I can really hear it now.

The Tolerance button, when turned on, is supposed to emulate the slight differences in real analog circuitry. For instance, each channel strip on an analog console may each have a 22k ohm resistor in its circuitry, but there is a manufacturing "tolerance" on that value. So on channel 1 the resistor could be 21.5k ohms and on channel 2 it could be 22.5k ohms, and so on.

With that in mind, although each channel should be identical, they are each ever so sightly different.

So if we add say some Console Emulation to each of our channels and turn on the tolerance button, it is supposed to impart ever so slight differences in sound across the channels.

It may be that, practically, you cannot hear the difference, be we are assured that it is there, so we might as well use it :-)

So, if you are only using one instance of a buss console, you probably wouldn't need it then . . .

I have Slate VCC and its the same ,,,,, So suttle you swear its not doing anything . But when you remove them from your total mix you get a more steril sound . I like Waves NLS only becuase I can hear the difference while i'm adjusting it . I don't use VCC anymore just because its a major CPU sucker and my projects cramp up. NLS and X2 console emulation dosen't mess with my CPU . I can only say that X2 console is as good as VCC Without the massive Load.  I was noticing that the Knobs and look of the X2 plugs resemble the units they are modeling S-Type looks like SSL..... N-Type looks like Neve...............A-Type looks like Trident A-Range ......definitly not Api
