I need to know about splitting a track

Ok say that i am doin a recording on a track and i like the first few lines of the song but i want to stop it at a point in the recording like split the track in two like cut out the peace i dont want and start recording from that point. say i want to keep the first part and i want to delete the second half of the recording because i do not like the ending of the song . How do i do that with out deleting the whole thing and having to do it all over

    Use the Split tool.
    In my programs it's in the toolbars and looks like a little pair of scissors.
    Select that, set the Snap-to resolution to the right value (or turn it off completely), click the clip where you want it split.
    Or just right-click the clip where you want it split and select Split.
    Then right-click the unwanted clip and select Delete or Edit>Delete.
