Midi notes not sounding ... frustration with auto expand

So, I have some midi notes in the piano roll view which are not sounding and some strange experience with auto expand. (I use an alphatrack too to move around between the tracks).

Earlier today, I couldn't get auto expand to expand anything. I could manually expand the track with the focus and when I clicked on another track, all tracks went pack to completely minimized... every time. I couldn't change the behavior. I turned auto expand on and off repeatedly. Restarted the computer.

At this point, it has worked itself out and is working properly. Just sharing the experience.

I have a midi track that arbitrarily doesn't sound some of the notes. I can watch in Piano roll view as it plays a G and then a few beats later, it crosses and identical G without playing it. Same pitch. It was working yesterday.

I'm ok with the idea that this is my learning curve, but I'd feel better if I could hurry up and get the lesson. Right now, I'm losing a lot of time guessing why things don't work.

Sometimes, I add a Breverb in console view and it crashes.

Restart and add the same Breverb in track view to the same track and it works.

Earlier, I could hit play and hear no sound whatsoever even though all levels were bouncing. I hit stop and I could hear the tails of the reverbs and the midi notes.

I don't know what to say here.

I'm crazy. Now the midi appears to be working. I muted all but the guitar track and the strange muting problem has seemed to go away. Now I can listen.

    Shrug.

And the midi notes are all playing.

    Never mind me.

So, I moved the guitar to a new track and the prob went away. So I copied over the fx chain and the problem came back. The problem is that the presence of the fx chain causes the whole recording to mute. So I extracted the fx chain and the problem seemed to go away. I was using the Clean Chicken FX Chain Preset.

If you experience randomly 'missing' MIDI notes try increasing your MIDI playback buffers. Find them in Preferences-->MIDI--->Playback & Recording. The default is 250 if IIRC. Try increasing them to 500.

The reason the FX chain is affecting it is the amount of delay compensation used for some plugins. The MIDI buffer needs to be large enough to cover that.

This isn't the case for me. The reason I thought the midi notes weren't playing is I solo'd one midi output and viewed the other midi track midi notes so it looked like they weren't playing. Just being honest.

But the problem with Overloud guitar sim continues. Randomly, all of the tracks will stop playing. To hear them again, I can mute the guitar track. I think I'll go back to guitar rig today and see if my problem goes away.

Actually, you were right about the midi playback buffers.

I think that all the tracks rendered to 32 bit is adding load on my PC I'm not used to, maybe. I notice all the tracks bounce to 32 bit (Right click audio track and choose Associated Audio Files at the bottom). By changing this to 24 in Preferences > File > Audio Data and rebouncing a bunch of the tracks so they're 24 bit rather than 32, my life is improving.

I get great piles of T0 tracks in the layers when I do a bunch of recordings in a loop. Any ideas why? I've just been selecting them and deleting them. So far as I can tell, they aren't a problem.
