X1- SI Bass not defined on MP3?- solved, use 320 bit mp3
I have this fine funky groove from my first attempt at SI Bass and I love it on Sonar playback. When I export to the MP3 it sounds more like just a kick drum than the defined bass line. It's as if the MP3 killed a frequency that provided definition in the bass line and I'm not sure what that would be. One thought is: did I need to do something to the SI Bass track to turn it into notes before export? Another thought is do I need to exadurate a frequency before export to compensate?

mp3 always loses something.... well lots of bits....
take a 50mb file converted to mp3 and you get something around 5 or 6 mb depending on the MP3 resolution you selected.
You should always go for 320kbs for MP3. Many of the music sites will reduce that to 128kbs but still, YOU need to convert to 320kbs and let them do the downward conversion to 128kbs...... or use a site that allows 320kbs files.

Yes part of the problem is probably the 128 bit rule (Soundclick)
I thought they said it had to be 128 bit or they wouldn't accept it.
I did do it first ifrom sonar at variable bit rate 7 out of 10, then converted to 128 in audacity to conform.
I'll try again.

Low freqs are a b**ch. Solo it in the analyzer and see what the freqs are doing. If it's competing with the kick at below 125Hz, it may be too low to be noticed. If you can get some peaks around 200-250, they may survive the MP3 conversion. These freqs are just suggested and not a hard rule... depends on the low end of the entire mix.
Also, depending on what kind of bass you're doing, like for a popping funk bass, boost around 4-5k to get that noticed.

Yes it's a popping funk bass. thanks for the tips. And Woo hoo, the higher rez MP3 (320) does keep the bass freqs much closer to the Sonar playback. (Using Win media player) And it went into Soundclick without extreme losses. I guess they do the conversion ok. Thanks guys I'm good to go again.

A few years back I was uploading 128 to SC but I noticed one of the piano parts has a sound like it was phasing noticeably. I reloaded it with a 320 and after SC dumbed it down, the phasing was gone. So I always upload 320 unless that exceeds the 10mb SC file size....
I think perhaps Reverbnation doesn't have that restriction.... I know some others don't. And I keep saying I'm gonna switch but that involves so much work to reload all those songs..... yeah, I'm lazy..... maybe just start loading new tunes to a different site would be the right solution...
