Software synths

Hi I have been using Pro Audio 9 for many years - I tried Sonar but didn't like it - too many bells and whistles. My problem is I have changed PCs to a Sony Vaio and it won't take an internal soundcard - I have been using the SB Live forever it is the best thing since sliced bread as far as i am concerned. However I now can't play soundfonts in CPA as the onboard card does not play them. is there any way i can use software synths in CPA 9 and how do i go about it? I really only need it for drums, keyboards and bass. Thanks in advance.

Your best bet is a USB midiman 2X2 or 2X4 and a sound module.  Modules are no longer trendy so they are WAAAAAAAAY cheap.  You'l have more sounds than the card and better too.

Those who do often, do well.

    Brandon,

PA9 supports only DX plugins.  It will also support VST plugins using the VST wrapper (may still be available from Cakewalk).  However, you can not use DXi or VSTi even with the wrapper.  There are some DX and VST soft synths but you get pretty bad latency with them (DXi and VSTi have low latency but that doesn't help you with PA9).  Of course there is the Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth which isn't too bad on latency but is iffy on sound quality.

With PA9 I used external sound modules and keyboard synths.  Since moving to Sonar Home Studio and now Sonar X1, I'm using more and more software synths.

Stumbled upon this old post while looking around.  Never new about this VST plugin.  I have searched the Cakewalk site and even their FTP site and it is not listed anywhere.  Maybe I'm not looking in the right place.

It might be called VST Adapter. I wouldn't be surprised if it has disappeared off of Cakewalk. It would be useful in PA9 but PA9 was not even supported on WinXP (although it runs there fine). Google might find you a 3rd party VST wrapper/adapter. --Larry

Yes, that's it, Larry.  I finally found it here:

    http://www.cakewalk.com/P...px/05-01-03-VSTAdapter

I have contacted them for more info.  I know the answer will be "no", but I have to try.

I did a bit a Google search for others but found nothing concrete.

A software synthesizer also sometimes known as a virtual synth is a computer program designed to create and control a variety of sounds. kviklån
