Transition to SONAR X2 Producer - A+

Ok... This is the best upgrade I've ever experienced.

X2  does all the things I do in X1, added some new features I really like (and already using) in X2 and didn't created a whole new learning curve with the features I know and love.

The upgrade from 8.5 to X1 was painful, frustration and numerous times I was tempted to go back and never purchase another Cakewalk product.  I was happy with 8.5, but not at all pleased with X1.  However, eventually, I found my way around the product. After 3 months of stagnation I was back to being productive.

THRILLED TO BE PRODUCTIVE FROM DAY ONE with SONAR X2.

Thanks...

This is certainly smoother than X1 was for many. I loved X1 from the off despite being a long term Sonar user (V2 onwards).

X2 was never going to be such a big leap forward but there's some real nice refinements in X2 for sure. I'm finding the little things like autozoom and the smart grid great plus the changes to the smart tool all add up to make a real difference.

I much prefer takes over lanes although there's some refinements to be had there. Automation lanes are handy as well but I still use the in track method as my main stay for automation.

Overall very nice though, not quite as rock solid, I get the odd crash while previewing but I'm sure that'll get sorted.

My life stopped at Sonar 6P and I didn't get back into making music until X1. Fortunately I got into X1 rather late and therefore missed out on the pain of what was, by all accounts, a difficult piece of software.

So when I got hold of X1 demo summer of this year, it didn't take long for me to decide to upgrade from 6 to X1. And the learning curve started then.

X2 took me by surprise. I was reading the speculation here about a new version due, or perhaps a new patch for X1, so when X2 was announced I thought, wow! I've only scratched the surface of X1.

When I watched the webinar for X2 I instantly knew I was going to upgrade, yet again, even though I hadn't fully got to grips with X1. I umm-ed and ahh-ed about being an "early adopter" and almost missed out on the pre-sale.

So far, despite some minor issues, I am really enjoying X2 and I've only gone back to X1 to check the odd thing or two out. I'm still in the "testing"stage at the moment because there are so many things to try and only so many hours in the day. I've not recorded any audio yet so that's the next thing I have to do.

    @ Karl,

I much prefer takes over lanes although there's some refinements to be had there. Automation lanes are handy as well but I still use the in track method as my main stay for automation.

I'm surprised at that, a little, although you're not the only one. It might be a bit late now, but I think that if it was possible for the Bakers to back track a little and add the function that would allow users to choose whether to use layers or lanes, there would be even more happy campers here.

Personally, I love the automation being separate from the clips and I even turn off the ghost info.

Take Lanes - I've yet to test them out yet so I'm not sure what to say about them.
