X2 (and X1) - Looking for compact control surface recommendations...

I'm looking for recommendations for a decent-quality, compact control surface to use with X2 and X1.

Mainly interested in something that provides decent transport / jog / shuffle options, to include being able to assign SCRUB to the jog wheel. I already have all the faders I need on my Novation Impulse!

This is for HOBBY use, not pro, so "affordable" is key!

Thanks!

If you do a search on these forums for control surfaces many will show up. You can also search on Sam Ash or Musiciansfriend for ideas and prices.

    Some that show up are

Frontier Designs Tranzport or Alpha Track
    Presonus fader port
    Behinger B-Control

I would recommend the BCF but no jog wheel. That is IMHO the best value controller you'll find, period. But as I said no jog wheel. Other than that it covers about 90% of the functions of the full blown MCU.

I use an MCU currently but I had a BCF before that so I can comment from both perspectives but it's 10% of the price of an MCU and much smaller footprint. It even has motorised faders under Mackie mode, and can be used as an ACT controller should you ever upgrade to something else, that's what I currently use mine for.

jog wheel isn't  a big issue really , been meaning to buy one of their products for ages. although there was a griffen one thats near impossible to find now.

BCF is great, no jog though...look for a used Kore controller, a user here has loaded the ACT stuff for it work great...

I have a kore 1 that does all of this and is usb, also has somewhat decent AD...ebay...<$100.00

I'm using SOnar Platinium on a 6 core Lynx Audio machine and a ton of vintage pre-amps/eq's/comps I build for fun and sometimes money, REDD.47/API/Neve I also use the UAD stuff, and also use a Macbook Logic 9 through Apogee...

CJ, you're using a Euphonix? Which one and are there any glaring deficiencies? Super interested in one of these...

I also moved from a BCF to a MCU it was hard to part with the bucks but worth it.

    Hi all, This ? > http://www.icon-global.com/Controllers_MIDI+recording+controllers_Qcon+Lite.htm or http://www.icon-global.com/Controllers_MIDI+recording+controllers_iControls+Pro.htm or http://www.frontierdesign.com/Products/TranzPort

+1 on Frontier Design tranzport.  I think they are discontinued now, but I'm sure you can find one on craigslist or eBay.  You could also use a FD Alphatrack.  There is a jog slider, not a wheel, but it gets the job done. Using one finger does scrub, and 2 does shuttle.

You could also go used on this if your budget is tight.  They've been around for a while.
