X2 Stutter issue
Hi Folks, Just updated to X2 yesterday. Loaded a previous project, so far everything worked fine, now all of a sudden there is a horrific lag/stutter during playback, the sound plays fine but the cursor and all metering and all tweaking during playback freezes a half a second before stuttering again..etc Anyone familiar with this or even better help? Cian

Yes im experiencing this with x2 STUDIO 64 bit. I have a post on this issue. http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=2670651 I made a video you can view: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvJi5Px4M_I In my experience, this occurs when: -Plugins are loaded into audio tracks and have either their windows minimized or open on screen. -The more plugins loaded, the longer the freeze occurs -If you only have plugins loaded into Busses, theres no freezing -Manipulating the Busses (soloing/muting) is unaffected by the freeze -If plugins are loaded in audio tracks, and I close their individual windows completely, leaving the plugin only viewable in the FX bin, no Freezing occurs Please let me know which version of x2 you are using. Ive installed this on two completely different machines with different audio interfaces, and the same thing occurs, with new OR old project files.

Wow, fair deuce for your input here. Im using Producer 64 bit (build 306) on Win7 My symptoms are similiar to yours in the youtube video, I too have some plugs ins in tracks (sonitus, ozone). At the moment, its pretty much unusable. Cian

Didn't see the video but I'd try to hit the Pause/Break key on your qwerty keyboard. That will cause the now time and meters to jig a long to preserve CPU muscles. Hit it again and it should run smooth

I was having similar symptoms and here's what fixed it for me: right-click the volume icon in the system tray and select Playback Devices. Right-click your audio interface and select Properties. On the advanced tab, make sure both boxes are checked (exclusive control and exclusive mode).

Could you explain a bit more how the pause/break button was the answer? I had no problems in X1 on the same machine, but have had terrible stutter issues during playback where the CPU meter jumps every so often causing a stutter. It seems to be made worse when I'm moving the faders around (possibly), but I don't need to be touching any controls for it to happen, either. I have a 64 bit i7 core with 12GB ram running Windows 7. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'm not sure how to edit my last post, but I just wanted to clarify that the stutter issue is happening for me in Sonar X2.

Luke, as far as Im aware the "pause break" button on the keyboard conserves some kind of screen cpu (not fully sure) All I know is yesterday when I tried it on X2 all graphical movement stuttered and when released all movement was smooth and fine again. Thats all I can offer at the moment, Cian

Thanks Cian. I just re-read the initial post and realise that your concern was with stuttering graphics, while mine is with stuttering audio, so perhaps I should have started a new discussion on my issue. But since yours is now solved, I hope you don't mind me using this space to discuss my audio stuttering problems. I have already tried increasing the playback and recording caches to 1024mb but am having the same issue. I guess I could try 2048mb but this seems excessive?? Any other ideas on the cause of the problem would be great.

Wow, thank you! I am trying the X2 demo and am relieved to find this was a FEATURE. Ironically, I was using the pause/break key programmed for a mouse click. Can you imagine? ;)

Cian that is correct. It is used to conserve CPU cycles for processing and will slow down the screen updates. This makes Sonar look like its "stuttering".
