X2 - AMD versus intel
I'm just wondering, is there any link between the chipsets we are using and some of the still quite major issues with X2. When I say major, I mean that, for a couple o people at least, X2 is somewhere between quite buggy to pretty much unusable. And at least one of them is on an AMD system. When I eventually took the plunge and purchased Sonar 5 I did some research then and the general concensus was to stick to intel chipsets. Since then, I have always stuck to intel, and even the laptop I have now is full of intel chips. And X2 for me is reasonable at the moment, with just a few glitches with some of the plugs (I too get the R-Mix GUI problem which is a white display where the pretty colours should be) and the odd crash here and there when I'm pushing the system a bit too far.

Running an AMD based system and so far no problems with X2 at all. I haven't pushed it too hard yet - damn day job is getting in the way a lot lately - but no problems. I'll let you know if I come across any.

I used an AMD-based system for several years and had NO CPU-related issues. This included all the way up to a 6-core system that was ROCK solid (pun intended). You get a pretty good bang for the buck with AMD systems. If you were to look at a site called www.microcenter.com, you would see that they offer almost constant deals where you can get a free or next to free motherboard when you pick up an AMD CPU. That's what I did, for several machines, with no trouble at all running Sonar. My current PC does have an Intel i72500k CPU, which at the time was the fastest one you could get - I coupled that with 32 GB of memory and some solid-state SATA 6.0 gb/sec drives. It's a neast. But that's just horsepower. I didn't switch away from AMD because of any troubles with using their stuff on a SONAR DAW. Hope that helps, Bob Bone

Thanks for your input you two :-) Any more AMD happy campers out there? Or indeed, any with AMD or intel tales of woe?

Using an AMD Quad Core on Vista here. Sonar 8, 8.5, X1 and now X2, no issues.

All other things being equal, an intel chip set is preferable. However, like others here, I've used AMD w/ no problems. It is much like the FW TI debate - you have a higher chance of having a problem w/ other chips. It doesn't guarentee problems and intel doesn't mean no problems. There are a lot of other pieces that make the difference. @

And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.

System stability has little to do with AMD vrs Intel. Most stability issues are caused by mismatched components, overclocking, wrong settings with BIOS, timing or voltage, overheating, bad drivers, and poor quality power supply.
