Will this warm humid weather NEVER end

October 3rd...I've just spent another day in T-shirt and sandals, still sweating my ass off because it's warm and humid.
Tomorrow it's more of the same.
Friday it's sunny and in the 80's.

Please please please stop it. I just want walk outside with a jacket and shoes on and feel that sweet sweet cool dry air on my face. And God knows I could use the extra pockets.

    I feel your pain.

Up in the 90s pretty much all week here - but at least, no humidity. Still, going out for a walk isn't an option.

I'm a suit and tie guy (okay, loose tie, but still...) My wardrobe is 99% black. I don't own a single t-shirt. I prefer wearing boots.

Though we bought a few things to make sure I wouldn't suffocate out here, I'll feel more comfortable when I can put the desert island clothes away for a while and get back to my usual attire.

I can handle pretty much any temperature as long as it's dry....after all, I can sit in a sauna quite happily for an hour (although it's not recommended).

The humidity makes me irritable. You're always wet. You never feel clean. Your skin feels prickly. You feel the sweat dripping down your back and down your butt...urgh. And to top it all off I have sciatica/piriformis type pain in the lower back which humid weather seems to aggravate.

Shoes....sweet sweet shoes....I have not worn a pair since, quite literally, May.

Hot weather clothing is so boring. You're options are greatly reduced. Hmm, shall I wear the green t-shirt or the brown one. The plaid shorts or the denim shorts.

Yeah - us Brits will swap you some of that.  We've had a crap summer with the exception of maybe, oh, 3 days?  Paper this morning threatens more than a month's rain in the next 48 hours for us southerners, while those up north are still mopping up after the floods from last week.

T-shirt and shorts - what are they?

Well... here in NC, heat and humidity are the norm. So now....add to that mix a swarm of gnats and throw in a few... no, more than a few mosquitoes and you have a typical NC day.

The gnats are so bad they we have had serious discussion here in this small town of having a Sims NC Gnat Day Festival...... Almost every town has some sort of festival day so we thought why not celebrate our gnats?

We're not as friendly as you think... we're simply shooing the gnats away and you thought we were waving to you....

On second thoughts, I could do without the mozzies, excessive damp patches in embarassing places, or prickly heat rashes so maybe our temperate climes aren't so bad after all.  I have to go to India in January for a week, so hoping it won't be too bad then.  The injections list alone is making me super nervous as even the thought of a tetanus jab puts me into a dead faint lol.

Brings an odd observation form a northerner - I'd swear there's a lot more bugs around here since a week or two than there were when we arrived, early September. I spend most of my time outside since we've arrived and I've just started getting mosquito bites...

India... yeah, you want to get all those shots.....   I went to Argentina a few years ago and the list of shots I needed was quite extensive. I had not had any shots in years so pretty much everything was up for renewal plus the country specific ones.  I went to the health dept and it took 3 visits with 2 to 3 shots each time..... it's really not that bad, even the tetanus.

What is pretty strange.... I can go camping in the woods near the center of NC at a lake no more than 60 minute drive from here..... run around all weekend long in swim shorts and have a great time and get ZERO mosquito bites and not see a single gnat..... I get back home on Sunday afternoon and the gnats greet me instantly upon opening the door to my truck in my driveway....and before I can get in the house.... 30 seconds or so..... I get 2 mosquito bites.

It's almost like this is gnat & mosquito central. But I also know that up in the north, (think tundra) the mosquitoes are so bad and huge they will carry you away.

Change will come, maybe a little more abruptly than you're prepared for. It was in the 80's here in Denver yesterday. It was 37 when I took off for work this morning. I think it's warmed up to about 38 now. That was a bit of a shock to the system. We'll try to push some of this your way so you can enjoy it too. I'm glad I winterized my Jeep yesterday. But then, Mother Nature has a way of saying "Just Kidding!". Last year, we hit some cold about this time of year, then we were back into short sleeve tee shirts until New Years.

Hey I'm from Newcastle originally so I grew up with that biting cold wind off the North Sea....there's way too much rain over there yes, but I really miss the cool. Feeling that cold air on my face for the first time after summer puts me into a dreamlike state and brings back vivid childhood memories (I swear!).

Yeah the change is pretty abrupt here too. It'll drop from the 70's and 80's into the 50's overnight, then from there it's just a few short weeks until we're rocking those 30's and 40's temps.

And then of course the New York winter is BITING cold.

Speaking of biting cold...  Just got the schedule for the year and we have a week off in January (we weren't expecting that one).

Which means we'll fly to Quebec City where the average temperature in January oscillates between 0°F and a rare but more "comfortable" 20°F.

I'm pretty sure I'll appreciate Las Vegas even more when we get back after a couple of days. ;)

I'm trying to convince my family to go completely subterranean.  So far, it's not working.  They're too fond of being a part of a civilization, pizza delivery, and air.

They have a good point.  I don't want to lose pizza delivery, either.

Yeah... October here in Southern California is my absoute least favorite month.  By October, I'm always BEGGING for the "normal" heat to stop, only to be hit with a Santa Ana misery.

October in Ohio is my mostest favoritist month.  Haven't been in Ohio for October since 1996.  I screwed up somewhere along the line.

This morning, it started snowing about 15 minutes before I left for work. By the time I hit the streets, there was 3" on top of a 1" layer of slush, visibility was about 15 yards. Within a couple of blocks, I had it in 4 wheel drive to keep it straight until I could get to a main thoroughfare. But it's Colorado, so it's only temporary. You can start the day dressed like an Eskimo, and end the day shedding buckets of sweat while dragging the coat behind you. It's supposed to be back up to 70 by Monday.

Not bad here in PA. right now. The temp   is 69.5 and  probably around 40/50% humidity. I'm happy with that.

I remember when I lived in Ga. and the mosquitos would almost carry you away . Literally swarms of them, going outside without repellant was like a death sentence. Here where I am in Eastern Pa. I can sit on the porch in the evening and I might get one or two mosquito nibbles. If I light a citronella candle I won't get any.

Drinking apple cider vinager will help to ward off mosquitos, believe it or not it comes out of your skin pores and mosquitos hate it. It is also healthy if it is unfiltered. West Nile virus has been reported in NJ and a few places closer to here.

I used to do that because I'd read it was healthy - I remember reading something about it in Sylvester Stallone's book.

Looks like I'll have one more reason to re-integrate that in my diet.

Apple cider vinegar is healthy in very small quantities. However, remember that it's a vinegar, and that drinking too much of it will eventually harden your liver (more than liquor will). It's also very acidic, which is not a good trait in the context of a body which favors alkaline conditions for health.

Alternatively, you can just leave the vinegar out in a bowl and it will have the same effect on flying insects. I used to live on Nantucket and during the summer most of the bars would have this faint whiff of cider vinegar that they'd left out to annoy the fruit flies.
