How to cut down a few bars in midifiles??

Hello, I am currently using both Cakewalk Sonar 8 Producer and the classic Cakewalk 8 version. I have no problems editing midifiles, changing instruments, adding effects, etc. But when it comes to cutting a few entire bars from a song I can't find the proper way to do so without losing all kinds of (sys ex) settings?! With eg Cool Edit it is easy to cut down a song in one single action, but with midifiles this seems (to me at least) a lot more complicated. When a midifile starts at bar 7 I should be able to remove bars 1 to 6 easily in one stroke? Please tell me how to do so, cause I'm pretty tired finding out all my attempts are unsuccesfull and way to complicated. Thanks very much and looking foreward to your suggestions, cause there must be a simple way to solve this! Musical regards, Marvin M.

The only two ways I know would be...

Option 1: Right click on the midi clip at bar 6 and select split clip. When the clip splits, it will either be hi-lited to the left (which would be bars 1-6) or to the right. Make sure the left part of the split is hi-lited and press the delete key.

Opion 2: Double click on the midi file to bring up piano roll view. Left click and hold while dragging to lasso bars 1-6, release left click...press the delete key.

Hope this is what you were after.

Thanks a lot Danny! Used the first option. Had to do it twice though; first to remove the colored bars and secondly to remove the actual bars. Nevertheless it worked so I owe you one!

You're quite welcome. :) Nah you don't owe me one...."thanks a lot Danny" is enough. It's rare for me to actually help someone do something right on this forum because so many that are way more advanced in Sonar than me....answer the posts first. LOL! Glad you sorted it out. Best of luck. :)
