This is REALLY out of my box!

A friend came over and wanted to play piano, so I turned Sonar X1 on and captured her live performance.  She didn't use a metronome, so the timing is a bit funky in places.  I went back after she left, and played all the other parts.  No MIDI in this one!

The piano is one of the stock voices in the Yamaha Motif XF7.  Enjoy.

You have a very talented friend.  This is excellent, and how fortunate to be able to capture this live.  As I said in another thread, you seem to be comfortable in a number of different genres.  Cheers to you and your friend.

*Echoes GH's sentiments* Love the blatant ending! I read where you thought it sounded like "techno jazz." TBH, I got more techno/disco than techno/jazz.

Btw, the bass line and comping made me think of "Ladies' Night" (Both versions)

Original (Kool and the Gang): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LjG7-5kbevo

Remake (Lil' Kim and the Girls): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QoQwdzKm7hk (Explicit Version)

Going back for real! (Sorry, flashback there)

    Good job again!

Hi Tony, (feel like I am talking to myself:), nice piece!!. I am dying to have an excuse to record my Motif XF8, sounds on them are amazing for sure. And, your friend does it great justice. Awesome mix of parts, you captured an orchestra.

    Cheers,

Rus-  Thanks man.  I think you got this tune mixed up with "Midsummer Techno Dream" didn't ya?  LOL

GH-  Yep... it was nice doing the orchestral thing.  I know nothing about an orchestra.  I just listened to what my friend's left hand was doing and imitated it a lot on the cello and horns.  LOL

Tony-  As much as I loved Roland's Phantom sounds, the Motif seemed best suited as an all-round synth that could quite faithfully recreate natural acoustic instruments and have a few cool sounds as well.

    Cheers!

You really have a command over different synths and textures.  Very well done.  The piano sounds really good.  She really did a dice performance if you didn't mess with the midi timing.

guitartrek-  There was no MIDI involved in this one... just straight audio.  She played very well with no metronome.

    Cheers!

This is fantastic!  I really enjoyed that.  She did a great job (especially live...great arrangement of that song!)...and I love all you've added.  Very well done!

I did catch your error, so no I didn't. What I did was just respond in this thread. And that was your fault! hahaha!

Seriously, whatever happened, I did enjoy both tunes!

    Hi Tony,

Wow, very nice! Great capture of Dawn's playing and an excellent job with the orchestration and mix, etc...

Thanks again for listening guys and gal.  This was very experimental for me.  I really enjoy exploring new ground, and like guitartrek alluded to- I also enjoy creating "textures" with synths.  I like to use LOTS of sounds even if they are only a few seconds each in a tune...but not make it sound like a patchwork quilt.

M@B-  Thanks for listening to Bridge of Sighs Remix.... that one was a blast to create!

    Cheers!
